I suppose the specialist is picturing a scenario where the side fans alter the direction of the front fans' airflow, causing it to "miss" the motherboard and be directed toward the case glass. If that were the case, I would just have a lower RPM curve for the side fans. Apps like FanControl are great at this, and free. If you do end up getting turbulence that increases the overall case temp, you can always try disabling the side fans, and measuring if there is a noticeable difference in heat. I personally prefer the AIO on top as the fans can be used to push through the radiator and out of the case. (This setup also helps eliminate the "grinding" sound that comes from air bubbles in front-mounted setups.) I would use the front and side fans as intake, and then the top and rear as exhaust. r/techsupport on Reddit: GR701 Hyperion Airflow
September 5, 2025 -

Hey everyone,

I recently got the ASUS GR701 ROG Hyperion case and I’d like some advice regarding the best airflow setup.

Here are my specs:

GPU: ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 5070 Ti OC

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 (AIO, 3x120mm radiator, 38mm thick)

The case supports up to 10 fans (3 front, 3 side, 3 top, 1 rear).

I’ve heard conflicting opinions: a specialist told me that using side fans may disrupt the airflow from the front intake, reducing cooling efficiency.

My questions:

What’s the most efficient fan setup (intake vs exhaust) for this case?

Should I use the side fans, or avoid them to prevent turbulence?

For an AIO cooler, would you recommend mounting it on the top or front?

Any insights from users with the Hyperion would be super helpful. Thanks

One thing I can tell you. Since I build my rig into this case myself today. Leave the gorgeous sidepanel on. I replaced it at first with Lian Li TL Wireless LCD fans and they barely push any air in. If any at all. The glassdoor completely prohibits any air intake. There is no way that it can take air in. Its completely sealed off. I've checked it myself. There are no openings at all. I dont even understand why they put that bracket there in the first place. It doesnt make any sense. Those 3 side fans only affect the 3x 140mm intake fans on the front. They dont do anything but work with the air that is already inside the case. I took the sidefans off and put the RGB panel back in. The front and exhaust 140mm fans, and the 3 fans of your AIO, stay but the sidefans are completely pointless and shouldnt even bother with them. Even if you take astethics into account, the panel is so special that it makes the case much better looking. Even if you replace them with the best looking Lian Li TL LCD fans. Dont do it!

May 28, 2025 -

Hey guys, I need some informations for my new build.

I was going to go for a Hyperion GR701 and 5090 Astral LC but I have a doubt.

I was thinking to put the CPU pump radiator (probably a Rog Ryujin III 360 ARGB) on the TOP (with the fans expelling air) and the radiator of the 5090 LC on the side of the hyperion (by removing the led plate).

My doubt is: the fans of the 5090 radiator should expel air or work as an intake? Because the glass panel of the Hyperion doesn't have a hole for the air so I am afraid that if I use the fans to expel air the radiator will not have a good cooling.

But if I use the fans as an intake I am also afraid to put too much hot air inside the case (because I take air from the outside that goes first inside the radiator, warming up thre air, and then inside the case)

Suggestions?

Feel also free to suggest other configurations for the radiators inside the case.

Thanks

I purchased this case online in mid January and it delivered with a broken magnetic latch for a side panel. I immediately opened a support case with Asus to request a replacement.

It's been a month and a half and I've had no less than 15 different support "agents" look at my case and "escalate" my case higher.

This is a $2 piece of plastic and metal that is interchangeable by design and yet I can't get Asus to send me a replacement?! I'd heard the support was bad but this is absolutely abysmal and for $500 I expected more, why in the hell is it so hard to get a replacement piece of plastic?!

I will NEVER buy an Asus product online again, period!

r/ASUSROG on Reddit: Question about the Hyperion GR701 BTF Edition
November 14, 2025 -

Good morning everyone,

I recently bought the Astral 5090 BTF graphics card along with a Crosshair X870E Hero BTF motherboard. My question is which PC case to put it in, as I want to use a custom water-cooled CPU loop and the stock heatsink for the graphics card.

My two options are the Hyperion 701 BTF Edition, which is my favorite, or the Corsair 9000D. I know I won't have any problem installing the custom loop in the 9000D, but after seeing pictures of the Hyperion, I have some doubts.

Could anyone tell me how much space there is between the 5090's heatsink and the Hyperion's front fans? And/or if the Corsair iCUE Link XD6 RGB Elite LCD Pump/Reservoir Unit will fit in the space between the graphics card and the front fans?

r/buildapc on Reddit: Should I or should I not use the extra 3x120mm fan slots in my asus rog hyperion gr701 case?
January 31, 2024 -

Hi, I've got that case mentioned in the title (it's the eva-02 build in a nutshell, including the case, but from what I can tell it's just the decorative parts that are different), but I'm gonna be using an asus rog strix rtx 4090 OC card in it (also eva-02, only eva parts I won't be using are the case fans since I'm swapping them out for Corsair iCUE LINK QX140 RGB 140mm PWM PC Fans for the RGB cuz the case fans don't have RGB, and I'm also not using the evangelion PSU either), as well as an intel i9 14900KF.

The CPU cooler is the asus rog ryujin III 360 eva-02 edition with the fans to be mounted on the top of the case, and then 4 of the Corsair iCUE LINK QX140mm PC fans to replace the 4x 140mm case fans with 3 in the front and 1 in the back.

The thing is, this case comes with a plaque on one side inside of the case, with a decorative design on it (it's the same for the regular non-eva edition of the case).
There are also mount slots for 3x120mm fans behind this plaque, and the plaque is easy to remove before putting everything into the case which I haven't gotten started with yet but I will be soon (just waiting on a few deliveries).

The PSU I'll be using is the asus rog thor 1600w, because I'll be running the bios in performance mode and the GPU can use up to ~650w (I know the 12v cable is for 600w, but I saw tests showing this GPU with the OC edition using up to 650w) with the CPU up to 250w when intel's turbo boost gets going, and so I'm aiming for 50-60% usage of the PSU which requires the 1600w PSU. I've already checked the fuse limit and which electrical sockets the fuse covers and it all checks out fine even if it'd be running at 1600w (which it never will, but I had to make sure just in case).
Also, I'll not be sharing the GPU's bandwidth with anything, so it'll be running in x16 for proper performance, so I've already checked that part as well.

Anyway, so the question comes down to, if anyone thinks it's a good idea or not to go with the 3x extra 120mm fan slots by pulling out the plaque (RIP eva...)? Airflow appears to be very specific to case designs sometimes, and the air intakes certainly aren't the greatest for this case with that plaque inside, but I know it's enough for the quiet mode bios (~450w used by the GPU with that), but the hyperion gr701 case was released a little over half a year before 14th gen intel so I'm a bit concerned if it'll be able to handle the 14th gen air "requirements" (for lack of a better term) as well as it does the 13th gen which it was originally designed for, on top of the rog strix rtx 4090 OC card which it actually was designed for from the start (it's just that with both that CPU and GPU combined it'll get pretty warm in there after all).

For anyone curious about it, the mobo is also the one part of the eva-02 design, the asus rog maximus z790 hero eva-02 edition (it can handle 14th gen intel after a bios update), and the RAM used is the corsair dominator titanium DDR5-6600 CL32 2x48GB. (I needed an all-around rig, hence why I went with that RAM)

But anyway, so as for that question, if anyone can point me in some direction so I won't need to put everything together, do thermal checks, then remove stuff and get extra fans afterwards if it doesn't turn out ok, if anyone thinks it'll be better or unnescessary to get the 3x120mm fans to replace the plaque beforehand?

It's a very nice rig, and you probably need to check how it looks before being able to answer this thread though.

The reason why I'm asking here, is because despite searching on YT, and despite searching on google, I couldn't find any mention to answer this specific question since it's pretty much the combination of the PSU, CPU cooler, as well as case design (& size) and the fans inside, and the specific parts needed to be cooled, that all needs to be taken into consideration.

It's also very high-end so I'd imagine a lot of people haven't even tried it yet, but I'd be very grateful for any kind of assistance.
I've tried to provide the details as clearly as possible, although I think I ended up repeating stuff a few times and for that I am sorry but changing that now would probably require rephrasing a lot, so I hope you (the reader) will still be ok with it.

I imagine not many people has gone with the exact same relevant parts though, so even if your build isn't the same, as long as you think your advice can be of some help then I'd very much appreciate it.

r/buildapc on Reddit: Requesting help on a ROG Hyperion GR701 build
January 12, 2025 -

Hello,

I am currently looking to build a new gaming PC with the ROG Hyperion GR701 case. I am relatively new to PC building and only built a budget one a a couple years ago and this is my first time trying a high end PC build. Every help would be very appreciated

current expected hardware:

  • ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 (currently have)

  • ROG Hyperion GR701 case (currently do not have - can order)

  • Intel Core i9-14900KS (currently do not have - will order)

  • Corsair Vengeance RGB Black 96GB (48x2) 6000MHz DDR5 RAM (currently have)

  • fans i am not sure about

  • 2TB SSD (going to expand later).

  • AORUS WATERFORCE X II CPU cooler (currently do not have - will order)

  • Corsair AX1600i 1600w (i know this may be overkill - currently looking for 1200-1500w one but i would prefer a larger power supply as i am planning to upgrade) (currently do not have - can order)

I have two main questions:

  1. Do you think the ROG Hyperion GR701 case is adequate for gaming considering thermals, room, cable management, etc.? - especially considering i am going to upgrade later next year to a 5090. If not then what case would you recommend

  2. Should i wait for the new ryzen CPUs to come out that can exceed i9-14900KS performance in gaming?

  3. Incase I want to set up to watercooling after i learn it, would the case have enough space to accommodate this?

Thank you so much for reading all this and answering this to those who have answered.

January 6, 2026 -

Hey so I've had this case for about a week now. The front panel ARGB were working fine before but when my GPU arrived and I installed it suddenly they stopped working.

I know for sure that everything is connected and seated properly, as evidenced by the lower ARGBs and the side panel still working. I even got it to connect to Mobo as you can see by the LED light being on the right side, but it's not turning on.

I uninstalled reinstalled armoury crate and I reconnected and reseated the ARGB cables a bunch of times.

I'm at a loss at how to fix this.

Anyone using an ASUS ROG Herculx with a GR701 Hyperion and a 5090 Astral OC?

I'm in the process of building a new PC, and I'm thinking about installing an ASUS ROG Herculx because of the graphics card's weight and because it looks cool. I read a review in a store from a customer who said the Astral and Hyperion didn't work for them. I wanted to know if that's really the case.

This might be a silly question. A couple of days ago I did my first PC build. I watched several hours of PC building footage and I was able to make everything work on the first try, everything except for one thing. Every ARGB component connected to the ARGB HUB is not emitting a single light and thus not detected by Armoury Crate. Fans from AIO are working well but no ARGB, PSU working but no ARGB. I even bought a GPU stand with leds that is not working at all.

Some people say these kind of hubs need power supply via SATA but I don’t see any connector.

P.S. The attached picture is a stock image, I cannot take any photo right now, but I will update de post as soon as I can.
