Look, I know it sounds obvious, but I keep hitting the download button, and it keeps re-directing me to a sight called Audio.com or installs something called Muse hub.
I assume I'm being a colossal dummy, so please help me out.
So I wanted to get into audio recording podcasts/VOs but I remember alot of people telling me Audacity has spyware now? I wasn't too sure if there was another free alternative or better paid option to record on. If anyone knows, any advice will help thank you!
I'm trying to download v3.0.0 because it was pre all the drama.
I get a link the the wiki to check the old versions : https://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Audacity_Versions#Compatibility
but there are no download links there.
Does audacity still allow download of old versions?
Any advice appreciated. Thanks
If you need a Windows version, the last legacy W7-compliant version is still available here. But this is 2.3.3.
As I've always feared, and sometimes experienced, such software crises, I have kept several copies of former Audacity Windows installers and portable versions, and I can upload a copy of 3.0.0 somewhere for you. But you shouldn't trust anyone proposing you binaries on the Internet;D
As concerns Linux versions, due to the repository system, I have no copies prior to a very recent 3.0.3 Appimage...
Anyway, even if I don't like the current policy of the new owner and I find it hard to believe that one can be "owner" of a FOSS software, I don't think that the current versions of Audacity present a danger for the user.

I've been using it off and on for a decade or so, but I recently tried to download it and it wants my credit card for an $88 charge. Is there somewhere else to download it?
I just wanted to download audacity (already used it in the past but not since the last windows install so here we go again) so I went to google, searched for audacity and the first result for me is audacity.de (I'm from Germany).
I immediately thought that the website looks a bit fishy but I wasn't sure. Idk, a giant "Virus Free Guaranteed" stamp on the download page just seems a bit suspicious.
I was looking for a portable version but it looks like the only Windows version you can get on de .de website is a regular installer so went back to google.
I found some articles about fake download websites but the evidence about audacity.de seems inconclusive.
Some oddities on the .de site are that I can't seem to find any links to the English website and it looks like the website is run by iWeb Media Ltd in Malta.
It looks like this particular website hasn't been discussed on r/audacity yet either. Does anyone know if it is a legitimate source?
I'm going to download it from the official website regardless (they even have a portable version) but I would like to shed some light on this. It was the very first result on google for me after all so I wouldn't be surprised if people use this site. I just looked deeper into it because I was looking for a portable version...
Does anyone know how I can record my beats off of my PO-33 into Audacity 3.2.5 through the headphone jack?
The link from the sidebar doesn't seem to be working anymore, and sites from Google search seemed shady. What is the official site?
*I just want to preface this by saying: THIS isn't intended to be a Reaper Hate session -To all those who love Reaper, God bless. Just not for me... Yet... or whatever...
So, I do all my pre-production in Audacity and have grown very accustomed to the workflow I've developed in there. I switched over to Reaper because, for some reason, Audacity can't simultaneously record more than TWO FRIGGIN' TRACKS, but anyway...
I cannot STAND Reaper. I only use it to track and to mess around with plugins in. I find it altogether convoluted and highly counterintuitive/ complicated, but whatever... I'm looking to get out of it and would like some recommendations on a DAW that is as similar to Audacity as possible in which I can:
Multi track (16 channels +)
Automate easily.
Basic Editing (time nudging, crossfade, etc.)
Use third party VST's
As you can tell, my demands are quite simple. Lol!
Only DAW I've tried other than Audacity and Reaper is Studio One -Very nice, but crashed on my twice. Lost files each time. Don't trust it. The one thing I'll give Reaper is that it's stable -I'll give it that, for sure... I could, actually, live with tracking and mixing (using plugins) in Reaper -But any editing, automation, routing, bussing etc. is a nightmare for me in Reaper -Maybe even just an audio editor where I could do those things simply would do the trick. Automation and such is a little funky in Audacity...
Thank you.
I'm trying to install Audacity (for editing audio files) on my Windows 7 computer here at work but it's requiring an admin PW. Is there a way around this, or would it be possible to install it, say, onto a flash drive so it's not installing anything onto the computer itself?
Hello everyone,
I am currently on the fence of working on Audacity or not. I was recently gifted a mic and wanted to have fun recording audio and practicing voice acting and singing. I instantly thought of using audacity for voice editing, but after some research I saw that there where mixed opinions of whether audacity is safe. How data is collected while using audacity. I want to broaden my thoughts. What are all of you guys thoughts? is audacity safe in your opinion? Is it worth learning to edit audio with this software? or should I look in to another way to edit audio?
Hi, so I notice that in newer versions of Audacity, there's no longer an option to NOT copy imported audio, it always copies it, taking a very long time and using an enormous quantity of disk space.
I use Audacity to edit recordings from my portable recorder, these come in 2GB files and I often have many of those files to work on, I might be splitting let's say 36 hours of recordings (16/48 WAV or greater) into 18 or more projects.. some which span files some which share files with other projects...
So being able to keep the audio in the original files was amazing for me.. worked great for decades.... Now I'm overwhelmed by the amount of disk space used and it's completely unmanageable. Is there a way to get around this?
Thanks
Hi, I'm constantly making fresh install of windows for a number of reasons, and I was wondering if there is any portable programs that I can for example, leave on a pendrive, that installs all the programs I want on a fresh windows install, without having to download them.
For example I already have an offline driver installer, and it would be perfect to have something similar to install software, since I have a folder full of exes and such to install my essentials, any ideas?
