I want to back up WhatsApp without paying for iCloud. But there’s this things called backups which is taking 668 MB of storage. What does it do? I don’t back my iPhone up in anyway. I just need WhatsApp backed up at all times. Will removing this 668MB cause problems in the future. Or is there any other way to back WhatsApp up for iPhone. Switched from android. Help please!
I’ve previously asked why Whatsapp is messing up with my iPhone’s storage. The in-app storage shows it takes 6gb of space while it actually consumes double the storage (or even more) when viewed in the Settings app.
Most people don’t realize this either because they’re using 128+gb phones or their chats are not taking much storage anyway. I’m using a 64gb iPhone 11 Pro Max and it made my storage easily full in no time.
What I did to solve the problem: 1- I cancelled the in-app automatic backup to iCloud. 2- I deleted the backup the app was creating to iCloud by going through Settings -> iCloud -> Manage Storage -> Whatsapp -> delete data.
How I’m backing up my chats? through the full phone backup I’m automatically making to iCloud. It actually fully backs up the Whatsapp chats with media and everything.
The only caveat: if you wanna restore the chats later on, you’ll have to do a full restore of the phone rather than restoring through Whatsapp itself.
