Inspired by this amazing video that everyone should watch (a fashion historian looks through a box of clothes from her early 00's high school days, and it is great and actually informative). What did you actually wear?
I was a freshman in high school in 2001, and totally relate to the video I linked above. I totally had the HUGE cowl neck sweaters, one peasant blouse and even a baby doll tee with super baggy jeans early on, but then got into goth and thrifting, morphing from some honestly heinous OG Hot Topic fare to some more interesting clothes and punk/art kid styles - had a crazy, short, cotton rainbow dress that I wore with knee high boots and purple hair, definitely did lots of black lace and lace-overlay tops and skirts with a ton of layers and necklaces and dark makeup. Still rocked pants that were long enough to drag on the pavement and rip and fray, causing a somewhat dangerous hole that my whole shoe could totally fit through. By the time I was into college years in 2005/6 I was fully into lots of DIY punk/goth sorts of clothes, including one beloved pair of grey and black zebra pants that I wore to shreds and repaired about a hundred and seventy times from Tripp NYC.
For those of you who were around and remember it, what did Y2K style actually look like for you?
