September 24, 2019New grocery money-saving app called Basket
Pretty neat. I use a google spreadsheet that my wife and I both have access to. It has the "BEST PRICE" that we have found on items we always use. That way at new stores or on sales days, if we know that XYZ is the CHEAPEST PRICE we've seen, we know it's a good time to stock up!

May 26, 2018Does anyone know of an app (US) where you can choose grocery items and see which store has everything at the lowest price?
I think one of the issues would be that a lot of stores, whether it be groceries or non edible products, will have their own brand of items that are not sold in other stores. I suppose whatever app or interface you are trying to locate would need to grab the quantity/price for the most accuracy. You could probably do a python web scraping interface for this. I do not know of an app that does this, but it would be nice. More on reddit.com

I just discovered the app Basket, which compares prices across different grocery stores based on (I assume) crowd-sourced data. Does anyone know how accurate it is or have any tips for using it?

There comes a point where your time is more valuable than the tiny bit of money you'd save. I used to be VERY frugal about my shopping, but I ended up spending so much time methodically comparing and tracking prices that it ate into my real life. Overall it's much better to just establish a budget and stay within that budget. If something with a long shelf-life is on sale, like dry pasta or coffee beans, stock up a little bit and store them in your pantry. But otherwise, just live your life. That's what works best in the long run.
