r/unitedkingdom on Reddit: BBC chair apologises for Trump speech edit but defends corporation against bias claims
September 27, 2025 - The BBC's entire raison d'etre is to be an impartial and unbiased broadcaster of fact, yet this was clearly edited that way intentionally, and the net result is that reputation takes a massive dent - big enough that both the Director-General and the CEO of News have resigned, the US President is threatening to sue them for $1billion and demanding an apology and Trump (and I separate him from the presidency deliberately because they are 2 separate issues here) will use what they did as cast Iron evidence in his defence in any future court cases related to his role in the Capitol riots.

November 13, 2025 - The edit doesn't show anything he didn't intend, it just took out some metaphor. That's deceptive,, but only to people who can't comprehend the whole of what he said ... Ironically the right wing response has been to do exactly what they accuse the BBC of doing, talking about how the very next sentence that got cut Trump was talking about "cheering on" politicians.

October 5, 2025 - He doesn't suffer, the BBC does. The slippery edit was pointed out in the edition in question by a guest which is interesting and possibly a frequent response by potentially hostile guests from here on as they challenge reports as they are broadcast. ... So the order in which those words are spoken doesn't matter as long as we're collectively hating the individual in question? ... The person who wrote the memo didnt even quote Trump correctly....

September 26, 2025 - Exactly, which is why there was absolutely zero need by the BBC to make Trump look worse than he already did. He's already awful enough on his own, he doesn't need the help. ... Well that was my thoughts too. It's not as if he didn't say the words he did so not sure how he can do his usual "sue 'em all" To me it doesn't really matter what order it all came in he did say those words. I think the BBC screwed up a bit but almost everything in the news is edited to some degree anyway.

November 10, 2025 -

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2025/11/09/bbc-davie-turness-trump-speech/

It seems like some reporting on January 6th is being critiqued for being biased and leading important people at the BBC to resign. Mostly I am wondering who it is that keeps being quoted as the “critics.” Is the BBC actually being sued? Why haven’t I heard anything about it if the harassment is supposedly so bad that these people have to resign?

Storm in a tea cup amplified by Farage because he does not want independent journalists questioning him for the rest of this Parliament. ... Still a stupid own goal. ... I agree.
