I would like it to be $500 or under, but I have a slightly flexible budget.
Are you open to refurbs/used?
No.
How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
I would prioritize build quality and performance the most. I want something that will last. I want something with decent memory, or at least an SD card slot.
How important is weight and thinness to you?
Not very.
Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
N/A
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Very light photo editing. I'm a History Major so I'll need to download and edit some maps and some small graphics. Nothing that GIMP can't handle and only every once in a while.
If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Sometimes some Minecraft and solitaire.
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
No Chromebooks. Reliable build. Touch-screen would be nice, but not a deal breaker. I need the ability to at least hook up a mouse, but not a million devices.
Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I've only ever had year old when they were bought laptops, so I don't really know what constitutes a 'good' laptop. I just want something that I can use for school and won't need to be refreshed every ten seconds because they wifi doesn't work. I don't need a gaming computer or anything, just something you would recommend for a college freshman who uses it a lot but for very light things, mainly research and writing.
(prefill form below for tldr) My MacBook very conveniently destroyed itself right before I'm starting hybrid classes. I know almost nothing about computers and am just trying to find something decent to use temporarily for Firefox/papers/research/online classes etc nothing intensive or esoteric. Due to my lack of computer knowledge I'm getting really confused trying to choose something. I've heard Chromebooks are kind of mid so I've been looking at used thinkpads on eBay but there's a ton of models that all seem to vary a lot in quality and I can't tell if I'm finding good/standard deals or getting ripped off on stuff I'll have to fix because I don't really know what I'm looking at. I'm mostly looking at older refurbished x1 carbons which all seem to be pretty similar in price though it seems like many of them have messed up/untested/absent batteries. Should I look at something else or just buy one that seems to have a working battery and hope all goes well? I'm hoping to spend less than $300 after just dropping $600 on textbooks lol but I could do <$400 if needed

I love 2-in-1s but realize I’m overshooting my budget with that. I’d prefer something that has performance.

I prefer something lighter, but am okay with something medium weight

Above 15

I’d like to stick with windows, but if chrome is easy to get the hang of I’m fine with that. 8GB ram and a decent size memory.
Thank you so much in advance!
Hello, I’m starting university the coming fall and I’m trying to find a laptop that I can use mainly for school but occasionally for movies or playing the sims 4.
My budget is around 550€(yes I know the prices depend on where you live and the currency, there’s also a bit wiggle room on the budget)
However, these are some of the laptops I’ve thought about:
-
Asus vivobook Go15 R3-7/8/128(or asus vivobook go 14)
-
Lenovo ideapad 1 15ALC7 R5/8/512 or Lenovo ideapad slim 3 R5/8/512
-
Hp laptop 15-fc0828no R5-7520U/16/512
-
Samsung galaxy book 4 i3-1315U/8/256/IPS
-
Acer aspire 3 R5-5500U/8/512
Do any of these seem to be okay for what I need? Which one would you choose? Any other recommendations?(I do not know literally anything about laptops lol, also I’m going to be studying languages so the laptop doesn’t need to be able to run any complicated apps etc.)
I’m on the hunt for a reliable, budget-friendly laptop for college. I mostly need it for note-taking, research, and occasional light video editing. What’s the best laptop that won’t break the bank but can still handle schoolwork without slowing down? Any suggestions?
Unfortunately, my Dell Inspiron's motherboard circuted and I'm faced with either replacing the motherboard, which will cost almost as much as the laptop itself (about $350), or getting a new laptop.
So, I've decided to start researching into laptops to replace my old one. I'd personally rather have a new one anyways.
The two laptops I'm interested in are the Acer Aspire 3 and Dell Inspirion 15. I don't know anything about laptops nor where to get good deals. Do you have any suggestions? I'm only wanting to spend up to $400.
I’m looking for a new laptop for school and there seems to be mixed reviews on different cheap ones. I’ve been looking at Lenovo, but I’m seeing a lot about issues with battery life, display, or speed.
I commute to school and would prefer a longer battery life, but if there are portable chargers or something that work with the charger I suppose I could make it work.
I’m a psychology student and I don’t game or anything so I’m just looking for something I can use to watch tv, study, make spreadsheets, etc.
Any help or suggestions are really appreciated! Thank you!
Hello! I’m interested in buying a laptop under $500 for college from Amazon. Under $350 is preferred but $500 is my max. I’m not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to technology so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Finishing thoughts
I don’t mind bad speakers or lack of bluetooth. I know that with my budget there would be some compromises but thats okay, any help would be appreciated.
I don’t know if this helps but I’m a nursing major. It’s a 4 1/2 degree for my cohort and need the laptop to last at least 4 years.
Thank you!
(edit: laptop questionnaire)
As the title states, I’m a college student looking for a laptop and I hope I don’t have to spend more then $300. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look ?
Edit
I just need a laptop to run Microsoft suite programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and occasionally watch Netflix.
I’m sure this is a post that y’all have seen a million times but here it is again and I’d like y’all’s pointers. I’m a college student using an Acer Nitro 5 (yes I know) as my school laptop and it is getting quite annoying. Not only does it weigh almost as much as a freight train but it’s glitching out and malfunctioning a ton. I’m looking for a replacement strictly for school somewhere under $450. Thank you all in advance!
Hi, I'm looking for a new laptop as I am going into college this coming fall. My budget is around $1000. I just want a good all around laptop that can get the job done. I have looked into the Asus Zenbook 14, but have heard that the battery life is mediocre. I need something that can hopefully get me through the day without needing to charge. If you have any suggestions that would be helpful. Thank you!
I need to buy a new laptop for my high school senior. I don’t want to spend a ton of money. Any recommendations on an affordable laptop that will get her through the year?

Battery Life >= Performance > Build Quality >>> Form Factor (I don't have a preference for form factor)
How important is weight and thinness to you?
Very, I want to carry it around daily. Looking for less than/around 1.36 kg (3 lbs).
Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
N/A, but a large screen would be a nice bonus.
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
No CAD, video/photo editing, or gaming. Mainly Musescore, and web browsing, essays, etc.
If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
N/A
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
I heavily prefer Windows OS. I would appreciate if it had reliable build quality, and a good keyboard and trackpad is a bonus. I don't particularly care for touch-screen functionality, fingerprint readers, etc.

I've seen a couple budget laptop videos and Apple Macbooks seem to be the holy grail for students; good battery life, light weight, not noisy, good performance, etc. The biggest turn offs for me are the price of them, and MacOS (MacOS is usually a deal-breaker but because I'll only be using it for schoolwork I suppose it's not as big of a deal).
I have heard that Intel's new Lunar Lake chips (?) are competing with Apple's M-series chips, but to my knowledge all those are in laptops that are out of my budget. I'm not looking for a laptop urgently, so I was thinking I could also wait until some time next year, maybe until these Lunar Lake chips get put in cheaper laptops, before buying one. What do you guys think?
Thank you very much for your suggestions!
