A while back me and a friend were in a similar spot she was using youtube and i was taking free courses after which i wanted to take up something structured that would actually hold weight if I decided to move into a GenAI-focused role. Did a little bit of research I went with the Applied Generative AI certification offered Purdue on Simplilearn's platform. What made me choose this was the reviews, the learning parts, projects and modules covered. Here's my experience on it, just taught this might help you. The instructors actually knew the tech and kept the content current, was a mix of theory + practice which helped a lot, I built small GenAI apps, played with model fine-tuning, and that made things click and the instructor was very helpful in my challenges and doubts. now talking about some thing which could have been better are, some modules were slower-paced along with a few concepts i had already learnt through free courses and a few modules could’ve gone deeper. Overall i would say go through the course curriculum and the learning path and all the details of the course before you pursue it so that it aligns with you. Industry leading AI courses and certificates for software engineers?
With 7 years for experince i will advice you to start exploring AI world gradually with slow steps. I was also from mechanical background and after 9 years i moved to AI roles especially AI engineer role. Theory + hands-on paths I found valuable: Andrew Ng’s Deep Learning Specialization (Coursera) – great for theory fast ai – hands-on, real-world projects. I made 2 projects here Hugging Face’s NLP course – super relevant for LLMs. I also did the Logicmojo AI program to build some projects for my resume. Pair that with regular practice on Kaggle, arXiv. r/onlinecourses on Reddit: What's the best Generative AI certification for someone looking to switch careers into GenAI?
October 24, 2025 -

I currently work in the tech field and have recently gotten really interested in Generative AI. I've gone through some beginner content which was free and on youtube and now I'm thinking about taking it more seriously and getting a certification that could actually help me transition into a GenAI-focused role.

There are tons of certification options out there from different companies, but it's hard to tell which ones are actually worth the time and money or recognized by employers.

If anyone here has taken a genAI certification that helped you gain practical skills or opened up real opportunities, I'd love to hear your recommendations

I’ve been working in a tech company for about 3 years now I work with multiple teams and I want to start implementing Genai into some of the processes. There are so many courses out there but I don't know which one to choose i’m a beginner and looking for something that actually teaches the basics well and isn’t outdated, but rather up to date.

If anyone has taken a course or knows of one that would be useful, I’d love to hear your suggestion I just want something practical and easy to follow.

I have been working in tech from the last 10 years(mostly work on software development). Even i also want to use GenAI for workflow automation but completely lost with where to start. I tried a few courses and here's what actually worked: Deeplearning AI "Generative AI for Everyone" (free on Coursera) is perfect for understanding the fundamentals without getting stuck by complicated math. Andrew Ng explains things clearly, and it is updated regularly. After that, I jumped into their "ChatGPT Prompt Engineering for Developers" course (also free, like 1-2 hours). You will literally learn how to build stuff with the OpenAI API, create chatbots, and automate tasks. For something more hands-on and India-focused, programs like LogicMojo AI & ML Course work well because they force you to build projects, not just watch videos or theory lectures. It was good compared to other options. I learn a lot here. But yes, start with those free courses first, they are genuinely good and recently updated (2025 content). I used what I learned to automate our team's report generation and saved like 5 hours a week. Don't overthink it; just pick one, finish it in a weekend, and start experimenting. The tech moves so fast that "perfect course hunting" wastes more time than just diving in and learning by doing.
