The 32 Best Horror Movies of 2019, Ranked – Scary New Movies to Watch | Rotten Tomatoes
October 31, 2022 - Happy Death Day 2U was the first 2019 horror movie to connect with critics, even if its Tomatometer score didn’t approach the original’s high mark. In fact, virtually all of this year’s sequels all fell around in the same area: You’ll see Annabelle Comes Home, It Chapter Two, and Zombieland Double Tap all clumped together in this guide.

It'll be in a vague order, but don't pay too much attention to the placings. Honourable mentions: Velvet Buzzsaw, Annabelle Comes Home, The Dead Don't Die, I'll Take Your Dead, Villains.

/R/HORROR'S TOP 25* FILMS OF 2019!
This is an... interesting list. I'm surprised to see Us so high. Especially over movies like The Lighthouse and Ready or Not. I thought it would be too divisive to rank #2. I don't agree that Parasite or Joker even qualify as horror movies. This is personal opinion, but I think Happy Death Day 2U and Doctor Sleep are too high. Happy to see Climax so high. It's fantastic. Would've liked to see Child's Play and Crawl a little higher. EDIT: Just noticed Pet Cemetery was included. Odd. More on reddit.com

If you like bleak horror movies, check out “The Lodge” (2019).
I really enjoyed it, but I had to watch The Road after it to cheer myself up. More on reddit.com

Answer (1 of 11): Here’s one I didn’t see anyone else mention: Sator. I’ve seen far, far better horror films. Director Jordan Graham is two months older than me—he was born in July of 1986, which makes him a Millennial. Millennials love to ruin things…or at the very least, change things.

The 13 Best Horror Movies of 2019
April 24, 2020 - And what a shape it takes: Mermaid sex, bewitched seagulls, animalistic showdowns in the dead of night — the depravity keeps piling up, with a haunting poetic rhythm that draws you in and drives you mad right alongside the isolated protagonists. “The Lighthouse” isn’t a horror movie of the jump-scare variety; it’s the best movie about bad roommates ever made, and the chaos that ensues when the rabbit hole has no exit.

Let's create a list of our favorite horror movies based on how good they are! Consider factors like rewatchability, story quality, and overall effectiveness. This list should focus on how well the movies hold up today, considering them at face value, not on their legacy or influence on the genre.

Here's how it works:

  1. Comment below with your nomination for your favorite horror movie of the year in the title. Do not comment duplicate movie titles. If your favorite movie has already been mentioned, simply upvote that comment instead. Note: Release dates will be based on when a film has its theatrical release (US), not whenever it premiered at festivals. So for example, the winner of 2023 was Talk to Me, which premiered in October 2022, but didn't get a wide release until July 2023. This list will use the latter date.

  2. Upvote the movie title(s) you agree with.

  3. The single comment with the most upvotes will be crowned the unanimous favorite for the current letter. If a movie title is posted multiple times, only the comment with the most upvotes will be counted. This prevents users from influencing the results by upvoting multiple comments for the same movie.

So let's have it, what're your favorite movies of the year in the title?

Past winners:

  • 2023: Talk to Me

    • Runner up: When Evil Lurks

  • 2022: Barbarian

    • Runner up: Prey

  • 2021: The Night House

    • Runner up: Titane

  • 2020: The Dark and the Wicked

    • Runner up: Possessor

The 10 Best Horror Films of 2019 - Slant Magazine
April 27, 2024 - In Fabric finds Strickland doubling down on these qualities, mounting a gorgeous and lonely horror film that expresses emotion via a series of increasingly abstract motifs. Strickland allows his dreamy atmosphere to take over the film, as the characters are eaten alive by their hungers and uncertainties, though this free-floating reverie has a moralistic streak. January 3, 2020 - Well, that does it for my “Top 19 of 2019”. All told, it was a good year for horror films (3 from Hell and the Pet Sematary remake aside); Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark was surprisingly good as was the Child’s Play remake and both deserve a mention here.

July 3, 2019 - One of the best horror movies of the past decade... maybe ever. Ari Aster proves himself to be no one-hit wonder. A masterclass in how to make your audience really, really uncomfortable. Beautifully shot. Incredible art direction and production design. Florence Pugh delivers yet another brilliant performance in 2019 (it really is the Year of the Pugh).

June 15, 2019 - While some thought writer-director Jordan Peele's doppelganger horror tale became somewhat, well, untethered from reality by its conclusion, Us boasts memorable performances and twists. The movie may also be the first time an Oscar-winner has found quite so much (self-admitted) inspiration from the horror film C.H.U.D. ... 2019 has proven to be a vintage year for the creepy kid horror movie thanks to Pet Sematary, Us, and this trio.
