In general you have three options. Magic Keyboard, Logitech Combo Touch and separate Bluetooth Keyboard. You choose Magic Keyboard if you want something more portable - because it takes less space - and also because of viewing angle (for example when you lie in bed and iPad is in your chest). Logitech Combo Touch you choose when you want more protection and function row - also when you want to save some bucks. The third option is usually you only use when you have one in your desk setup and just use it - in general, it’s not worh it in portable setup. Answer from Bart_8 on reddit.com

Hello, I got my daughter an iPad, finally got rid of the fire tablet thank god. But I’m looking to get her a keyboard. I’m looking for one that’s not going to break the bank. The Apple keyboard is very nice but I don’t want to spend that much money on it. More on talk.macpowerusers.com
Which iPad keyboard should I get? Are there any good quality but more affordable alternatives to the Apple magic keyboard?
If you want Magic Keyboard vibes for less, go Logitech. The Combo Touch hits the sweet spot, smart connector (no charging), backlit keys, solid trackpad, detachable keyboard, and better day-to-day protection than Apple’s folio. Also, what about iPad cases, any recommendations for ones that offer good quality and protection?
And does the Apple Magic Keyboard provide decent overall protection for the iPad, or would I still need a separate case?

The Logitech Combo Touch is a good alternative. It's two separate pieces, and the portion acting as a case provides a kickstand and decent bump protection around the edges. This is a wired keyboard that connects directly via the accessory pins on the back of the iPad, much like the Magic Keyboard, so there's no separate battery to charge, and no potential for bluetooth issues.

Experiences with iPad keyboards with trackpads? | Ars OpenForum
May 16, 2023 - My iPad has never seen a scratch when attached to that keyboard. Contrast this with MacBooks which scratch very easily and will dent if not babied. I can only speak to typing on the 13" model, but I find it to be excellent: among the best-feeling chiclet keyboards Apple have produced. The trackpad is as good as any MacBook, save for two things: the click is physical, not haptic, and its vertical dimension is a bit cramped.

Do you have any experience with this? Thanks, Karel ... Hi Karel. VoiceOver gestures are not supported on the trackpad of the magic keyboard, or any keyboard for that matter. The keyboard itself is very nice, and some people also like the Logitech ones. For me though, the software limitations are quite disappointing. Thank you for reply. I have the same opinion on it. Software limitations are disapointing to me. Karel · In my opinion, an Apple keyboard offers the most functionality.
