"Great question! I struggled with this for months, but finally found that for early-stage startups with tight budgets, focusing on organic growth strategies can be highly effective, and it supports the long term. Here are a few approaches: Content Marketing: Create valuable content that addresses the pain points of your target audience. This can include blog posts, infographics, or videos that showcase your expertise and attract potential customers. Really focus on their problems. Social Media Engagement: Actively participate in relevant online communities, such as LinkedIn groups and of course here , where your target audience hangs out. Share insights, answer questions, and build relationships to organically grow your brand's presence. Partnerships and Collaborations: Partner with complementary businesses or influencers to co-create content or offer joint promotions. This can help you tap into existing audiences without significant financial investment, and having a partner can support you in the highs and lows. Referral Programs: Encourage your existing users to refer others by offering incentives or rewards. Word-of-mouth is a powerful and cost-effective marketing tool. Search Engine Optimization (SEO): Optimize your website and content for search engines to increase organic traffic over time. Focus on long-tail keywords relevant to your niche to improve visibility. Reach out for help, people here are helpful. Remember, consistency and providing genuine value are key to the success of these strategies. Best of luck with your startup's growth journey! The only thing that has stayed effective for me is answering the exact questions customers are already asking and proving those answers in the places they hang out, I do short cycles of research, draft, community feedback, then publish, once that loop started to work I got outside help to keep the reddit piece credible and to align our pages for AI pickup from Red-Engag⁤e

What’s the Best Marketing Strategy You’ve Used That Actually Worked?
Not relevant to shopify, but my best marketing strategy was accidental. I was taking a web development course at a community College. For our final assignment we had to find a website that was outdated and rebuild the homepage. I picked a local elementary school and ended up rebuilding the entire site since it was a small site. I ended up getting so many compliments, I decided to talk to the principal to see if she was interested in buying it. She loved it but said they didn't have a budget for this. I ended up working out a deal where they could keep it and in exchange put my name and number in their newsletters when they announce the new site. Something so simple at the time that I agreed to thinking "oh well this is better than nothing". That one little ad got me so much fucking work! Parents with small businesses, parents who knew people with small businesses, parents who wanted to start small businesses... Then friends of those parents.... And friends of those as well. I no longer do that since I got a corporate job eventually, but Every site I built I charged hosting and now 14 years later I still collect about 600 monthly in passive income from lots of those sites. What Is a Marketing Strategy?
June 4, 2025 - The terms “marketing plan” and “marketing strategy” are often used interchangeably because a marketing plan is developed based on an overarching strategic framework. The plan outlines marketing activities on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis, while the marketing strategy outlines the overall value proposition. In some cases, the strategy and the plan may be incorporated into one document, particularly for smaller companies that may only run one or two major campaigns in a year.
