There are tons of choices out there. I personally bought the same CPU and a Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX and G-Skill 2x32. Works like a charm and have a lot of I/O: 4 M.2, 6 SATA, 4 USB 2, 5 USB 3.2, one can be used to update bios without having the PC on, one USB C, DP, HDMI and 2.5G Ethernet. It also have heat sinks over M.2 and VRM... Don't forget to update your bios. You have to do it step by step and not go all the way to the latest update. Also check your case size. And it only costs $190.

I wouldve picked the Ryzen 7 7800x3d if it was Available at my location but it's out of stock.

i7 14700k not the worst nor the best but still fine just gotta find a pair able motherboard for it, any help to find the perfect pair would be appreciated.

I would still stick to AM5 regardless and with longer future upgrades to CPUs that will out performance to any 14th Gen Intel chips since that platform is now dead. If Intel probably be better off buying their new gen chips instead

well have you had the chance to look at a ryzen 7 5700x3d? their almost the same thing, whilst the 7800x3d still gives slightly better performance if you were looking that way towards those cpus the second best would be the 5700 :)

MSI Z790-P WiFi (DDR5). I have that board with my 14700K. It’s a beast and it has a stable bios.

I picked up the Asus Rog Z690 hero for my I7-14700K. Mainly because it was on sale and a lot cheaper than the Z790 counterpart. And i'm running with G.Skill Ripjaws S5 6400mhz CL32 32gb kit.It's running perfectly fine and stable.

There is no future proofing when it comes to raptor lake cpus. Not only is it the end of the line for that socket, but they are infamous at this point for their failure rate. If you havent already bought the cpu I highly suggest going amd. If you own the cpu already, i highly suggest you return it.

I'm looking for a basic motherboard without fancy gaming features, primarily for programming with occasional gaming (I only play civ6). A couple of M.2 slots are sufficient. As the title suggests, I am at a loss for what motherboard to use. I tried doing some research but I had some trouble finding videos with similar pc builds, and other impressions of motherboards I found were conflicting. Generally this is a whole new realm of confusing for me. I'll do what I can to properly research, but some good starters like what motherboard I'm working with would help with researching parts and stuff.

Overall, I've had my current build for quite a few years now but it's weaknesses are showing now that I am getting into animation and rendering. Just today it was having some serious troubles with a simple shader menu. I also would not mind the boost to gaming so I can run higher than minimum settings on some games.

As for the specs I know of the motherboard would need to meet, of course we have the processor and graphics card. I'd also like it if the board had built in wifi/bluetooth. But if not I can look around for those components. I would like it to be able to facilitate high ram as well, as blender is VERY demanding. I've only got 24 on my system atm, so the ability to have at least 32 would be great.

Regarding the ram, I don't know where to start when researching chips, so any tips/resources for that would be very helpful. Even so, I would like the motherboard to be able to have at least 32 gb of ram. Preferably with the ability to upgrade even further. But if it doesn't have the chip slots I can look into ram stackers as well, if those are still in use at least.

I'd also like the ability to plug in multiple ssds, if that's standard then nevermind. I will also want to run windows 10 on this, but to my knowledge many pcs can have different OS systems installed. If there's no quirks about installing the OS on the chosen motherboard then I can handle that part.

Finally, along with the motherboard recommendation, if you know of a compatible and solid power supply I'd love input for those as well.

So sorry about the text wall. I am an absolute novice to pc building. The one I have rn is just a used one off of ebay with a card swap and some ram slapped into it. It's been working great for me so far, apart from needing more "umph" now. So, if any more details are needed for a good recommendation please let me know, I'll be happy to add any other needed info.

Hi. You can select features on Newegg (website) to sort for motherboards that have your desired options. For ram don’t worry most motherboards with 4 slots can support at least 128Gb. If you want to be able to run them at higher clock rates (xmp for Intel) it’s recommend to only use 2 of the slots. You’ll likely want a 850w PSU (could do 1000w too), any name brand with high reviews should be fine. Keep an eye on efficiency and that it’s not too long for your case. Higher end boards will almost always have WiFi and Bluetooth built in. Higher end boards will also have multiple m.2 slots for nvme storage. One note is that these use PCI lanes so if you populate all m.2s on a board it will usually reduce either your SATA ports on the board (hdd connector) or it could reduce the number of pci lanes run to your pcie slots (the first long slot on the mb is a x16 pcie slot). Unfortunately this can sometimes be hidden and require a deeper dive, there is usually a diagram in the user manual of a motherboard to show how they distribute the pci lanes if it’s not said on whichever online store you’re looking at. Other things to look at are USB port count on the back, and what type and number of USB headers are available for the computer front io to plug into.

what are you comfortable spending? there are great deals on some pretty high end z790 mobos right now, and you want some stuff that actually would make spending a little more worthwhile like i/o, future ram capacity (assuming you want it stable and not at terrible speeds), stuff like that. you already have a gpu you’re good with so you can prioritize/go a little fancy since youre not needing to put max money toward the gpu like a build from nothing, is how i see it. aorus master z790 is $229 on amazon right now, for example. it was once a super overkill board but with board prices getting slashed why not? its like 40 more than a tomahawk or similar since the mainstream price point boards are just lower margin and have less room to cut probably. thats a great featureset. extreme ram speed rating and has some 4 dimm kits at modest xmp speeds on qvl iirc (gb site wont load for me rn so i might be off on this, mightve been an msi qvl) biggest downside is the physical size, but it sounds like you might be changing cases? its an eatx mobo. it is entirely deal dependent though, and it should really come with the thunderbolt card it supports in the box to have more true high end i/o. there are some other good prices right now but ill yap more with a budget your specs are basically mine right now (4070 super i got at launch instead of 3080, 14700k the past few months), and i also have mixed productivity/gaming loads, so im rambling a bit since its what im running too and did a lot of research before my purchases psu, you’re kinda running two notoriously power heavy chips and id hate to recommend something that is just enough right now but wont be with gpus running up the power draw again if you want to upgrade in the future. psu should be a 7-10 year fixture, not just good enough right at purchase imo. of course you might have a less power hungry processor by year 4 or 5, but what if you want to upgrade your gpu first in like a year or two? total waste to rebuy a psu if say you decide on the high end that is getting super power hungry. and the higher capacity is never 100% wasted, you put less wear and tear on the circuitry running it below peak prolonging the psu, prolongs fan life, less heat and noise, etc. dont run w10 with p+e core intel marketplace region helps too. difficult to recommend brands on psus without that and stuff based on deals so i kept it to one mobo for now. ram: would 48gb be enough? that’s the sweet spot right now for capacity and speed since it’s the highest density in single rank per dimm at the moment.

Hi guys, I am planning to build a computer for editing and gaming, but more focused on editing.

I made up deciding to buy the i7-14700k + rtx 5070 + 2x16gb ram, and I want some advices for what motherboard should i buy to improve my main subject that is editing.

Ryzen is not an option, i know it is better for gaming and longevity (AM5 socket receiving more updates), but the extra cores intel gives is essential for me, a Ryzen with that level would cost me a lot more, and where I live everything is so expensive, we are traveling to end up like a Venezuela >:(

Doesn't really matter. If you need wifi get one with wifi or get wifi card with antenna. If you need usb 3.2 gen 2 because you use external hard drive every day, get one. If you have a lot of nvme m.2 then make sure it has enough slots and they don't get disabled (check manual). bios flashback is nice to have, not necessary. make sure it supports the ram you have. Make sure it supports overclocking because you have k CPU. Only you know what features you want or need. You probably don't need a $300-$400 motherboard though

Wow, lucky! There's tons of great options around $200 now - it's nothing like it was a year ago when an entry-level Z-board was like $300. Just find a board with the i/o & features you need and pull the trigger. They'll all run a 14700K with a light overclock no problem.

I looked at the Asrock Z790 NOVA Wifi, but it only has 4 SATA ports! I have at least 5 HDDs I want to attached, and will soon be in the market for a 6th.

I looked at german pricing. The Asus ROG STRIX Z690-F GAMING WIFI fits the bill quite well. I looked at the Z790 boards and the Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX Z790 looked good as well at first, but it had worse power delivery than the Asus board. And reviews also said that it had a "budget audio solution". Other Z790 boards were either more budget oriented than the Gigabyte board. Or were significantly more expensive than the Asus board. So I'd go with the Asus board even though it is a Z690 board. Unless you have faster memory than 6400mhz.
