I'm looking to MP3 player in 2023/2024. Tldr at the end of the post ( I was told they are called Digital audio players now so read the rest with this in mind)
Tbh, I'm done with streaming services. I don't like Spotify because I have to get premium to actually use the app efficiently ( idw to download an apk). I'm currently using Soundcloud/ YouTube.
Soundcloud doesn't have most of the music I listen to in my country. Yes I tried a vpn but then got bombarded with ads and I rather have the music in my country then to keep switching severs. I can't stream music offline
Youtube is only on my PC and I want to stream music offline. I reached a conclusion that maybe it's best to get an mp3 player.
The problem is I don't know how they work. I can stream music offline right? I also want to listen to podcasts and download TV series , movies and music so I can watch/listen offline. I have some questions regarding MP3 players.

Not sure what your exact use case is, but I’m going to assume that if you were previously using an iPod that you had a stored music file library and aren’t looking for a device to stream Spotify. If you want the most basic, no frills devices, check out SanDisk. They are one of few last holdouts making cheap, functional, semi-disposable mp3 players (at least for the US market - you can buy tons of imported alternatives from Amazon or the like, but these are not likely to have a reliable US warranty or customer support service). If you want the closest experience to an iPod, it’s gonna be the Sony Walkmans. Plenty of models to choose from to match your use case and budget, and Sony has been doing this long enough that they’ve committed to this product segment for the long term. They offer iPod-replacement models, as well as some higher end devices, which leads to my last point… Audiophile mp3 players (or DAPs, digital audio players) are an expensive hobby and a deep rabbit hole to explore. There are a surprisingly large number of boutique brands making $500+ devices chasing that perfect audio experience. I don’t personally recommend anyone jump into this market looking for a better iPod - these are for people looking for a portable hifi setup. But, if you are curious, the brand Fiio has been around for a while now and makes a wide range of devices that could give you an idea of what’s available. Hope this helps!

I like Fiio 's products. I have their K19 DAC/Amp for my computer, KA3 DAC/Amp dongle for my phone, and KA17 portable DAC/Amp for my laptop. I plan to get their M11 Plus ESS DAP for the office and travel. I either listen to FLAC files or stream from Qobuz with my Audeze LCD-X headphones, or Moondrop Variations IEMs.

I don't actually have such a phone, and don't really want one. I know it sounds old-fashioned (which I am!), but I'd prefer a standalone MP3 if I can get one.

A used cell phone that you don't put a SIM card into is an excellent MP3 and streaming player. You will get bluetooth connectivity for earbuds etc. I use an old cell phone in the garage for my music player.
