Look at a tier list such as this: https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/ For the most part, PSU's are getting to the point that as long as you buy from a known brand you're going to be okay. Stay away from low wattage PSU's from companies you've never heard of and you'll be fine. Keep in mind, most PSU's are made by the same few OEMs (seasonic, super flower, and a couple more) and the brands just slap their name on it (along with some minor tweaks). So unless the particular brand is doing something crazy with it, chances are it's not unique. Biggest part of the brand is the warranty. i7 14700KF / Nvidia RTX 4070 / 750W PSU
750W is adequate but with an eye toward future upgrades, I'd like to get a higher wattage PSU. If it was your rig, what PSU brand would you put in it and why?
Update 2/9/24: Thank you all so much! Your responses are incredibly helpful. As a non-builder, I now have a ton more knowledge on the subject and feel that I can confidently research & shop for a good PSU. You guys are awesome!

Depends on the budget, but if endless, probably Seasonic or one of the actual producers of PSU's. A lot of brands just buy units from the manufacturers (like Seasonic, CWT, FSP, Delta, etc) and slap their own logo and branding on them, like Corsair, MSI, and Asus.

I initially wanted to buy a used PSU but the comments here talked me out of it, saying that the cables and modular ports on the PSU are not standardized between brands, and that even if the cables fit it could still damage my components.
Now I have a power supply from Corsar cv series cv550 80 plus bronze and it works perfectly for 5 years, but I need a replacement because I bought rtx 3070 evga, what model of the unit is best for me to buy? I am looking for 750 to 1000w, for future component replacements. And if used, what brand will be the safest to buy?
Also my components are the i3 9100f processor and asus h310M-A R2.0

Don't look at the brand, but research on the model since even Corsair, NZXT, Seasonic, etc has bad apples. Corsair RM750x SHIFT - $90 Cooler Master MWE Gold 850 - V2 - $100 MSI MAG A750GL PCIE5 - $100 Asus ROG Strix 750W - $124 NZXT C850 (2024)- $125 SeaSonic Focus GX V4 ATX 3 750W (2024) - $130 Corsair RM1000e (2023) - $155 These are what I will be looking at and depending on the need, it's a toss-up between the RM750x SHIFT and the C850 for me.
