Listen. I love good romances like Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Two Weeks Notice, and Bridget Jones Diary (minus all the fat phobia comments. That girl was skinny, damn it).

I love romances. But, I rarely EVER watch them! So many are either beautifully written but end tragically, or are cheesy with no chemistry. A lot of them also don’t have much of a plot.

So please please please give me recommendations! I don’t care if the romance is secondary, I want all recommendations gay or straight, don’t leave out any foreign films, and they HAVE to have good chemistry! For the love of god!

Doesn’t matter if it’s wholesome and romantic or sexy - I need something well written and well thought out. Almost all of the ones I actually like are Jane Austen inspired. That wonderful woman cannot have been the ONLY great romance writer!

(Side note, you can’t just show us two attractive people standing in the same room and let that be their chemistry. I’ve watched so many action movies, horror movies, scifis, fantasies, and most of the romance couples have zero chemistry. Anyways.)

I’m looking for romance movie recommendations and wanted to hear other people’s opinions. I really love The Notebook and the kind of romance it shows — emotional, passionate, and unforgettable. I like movies that make you feel deeply connected to the characters and their relationship, whether the story is happy, sad, or bittersweet. What I enjoy most is strong chemistry, meaningful moments, and a love story that actually sticks with you after the movie ends.

I’m mostly interested in more modern romance movies rather than very old or classic films. I don’t mind if the movie is dramatic or even a little heartbreaking, as long as the romance feels genuine and well written. Movies where the relationship feels real, intense, or complicated usually stand out to me more than light or overly cheesy romances.

I’m open to different styles of romance — slow burns, emotional love stories, realistic relationships, or even romances mixed with other genres like drama or thriller — but the love story should still be a big part of the movie. I also appreciate good acting and dialogue that makes the emotions feel believable.

In your opinion, what is the best romantic movie of all time that isn’t too old? If you also like The Notebook, what other movies gave you a similar emotional experience? I’d love to know your recommendations and why those movies stood out to you.

Romantic movies with insane chemistry

I just watched 10 Thing I Hate About You and was blown away by the chemistry of Health and Julia. It immediately became my favorite movie because of how amazing they were together. I really thought they were perfect for their roles.

Does anyone have any recommendations of movies with a romantic plot where the lead actors have really good chemistry?

Valentine's Day is tomorrow, so I thought I'd ask the big open-ended question. I did a quick search on this sub, and found that it hasn't been asked in awhile. There have been more nuanced/themed requests, which is great; but what are your all-time favourites?
