It can be romantic comedy
Dramatic romance
Historical or periodical
Or solely romantic focused
I'm obsessed with TV shows that have deep, emotional romance at their core. Some of my favorites include:
Jane the Virgin (Love Jane and Rafael)
Ginny & Georgia (Marcus & Ginny are so cute)
Sex and the City (Do I even have to explain)
Gossip Girl (Toxic but I love Chuck and Blair)
Never Have I Ever
The Good Place (Chidi and Eleanor are my faves)
The Summer I Turned Pretty (Team Conrad all the way)
Firefly Lane (Ugh, this one broke my heart)
Nobody Wants This
H2O: Just Add Water (Nostalgic, but I loved Zane and Rikki's enemies-to-lovers dynamic)
Surprisingly, I also loved Outer Banks, though I'm not usually into so much action, but I loved Sarah and John B’s love (plus the tropical aesthetic) so that's what kept me hooked. John B is so sweet to her. I also enjoyed Good Girls and Dead to Me even though romance wasn’t the focus.
For reference, some romance movies I love:
Twilight
The After Movies
Fifty Shades of Grey (mainly for the romance + rich aesthetic lol)
The Hunger Games (Peeta is everything)
My Fault
Aesthetics really matter to me too; TSITP’s summer vibes and OBX’s tropical/reggae feel add so much to the experience. I don't like 18th century/older time periods where there is a strong historical aesthetic with costumes, castles, and old-world settings, not my type of vibe so please don't recommend shows like that.
I know some shows take time to get into (OBX felt slow at first, but I ended up loving it). I’ve been recommended The Vampire Diaries and The OC but struggled to get into them... maybe I just need to stick with them? I also have been recommended Bridgerton, but I don't really like the old queen/king castle type aesthetics, but maybe I also just need to try it out anyway?
What are your best romance-heavy TV show recommendations? I want that deep, passionate love that keeps you hooked!
