Before you even get started on overclocking you should make sure you've got your system up-to-date so it's got maximum performance. Get the latest BIOS... I'm not sure, but I think ASUS released bios' based on AGESA 1004B for it, the latest for Ryzen 3000 that fixes a lot of the problems with boosting. But then you need to also make sure you've updated to latest AMD X570 chipset drivers. Get them only from AMD web site. After that, make a few BIOS tweaks to make sure it's using the chip's boosting and idling/power conserving features right: You have to set the following in your BIOS, under "CPU Features" or "AMD_CBS": Global C-state Control = Enabled Power Supply Idle Control = Low Current Idle CPPC = Enabled CPPC Preferred Cores = Enabled AMD Cool'n'Quiet = Enabled PPC Adjustment = PState 0 That's not overclocking, it just makes the BIOS use the CPU correctly and enable it to work with Windows correctly to get the most out of it. Then, if you really want, go ahead and experiment with PBO overclocking. It does provide a little boost in some benchmarks, but not anything you'll notice. But the good thing about it is it is safe and leaves the system inherently stable no matter what you do. At the end of it, at least you'll know you've optimized it and that does provide a certain sense of satisfaction. Manual all-core overclocking is a major pain, actual decreases performance in most real world tasks and in those tasks it helps it's really quite minor and unnoticeable. Good luck. So, first thing first. Ryzen 3xxx series CPU's are not great OC'ers, and are already pretty maxed out. You would be much better off using Auto OC and PBO to push the CPU. It nearly always gives better results. Unless there is some reason you need an all core OC on the CPU, this is the best way to do it. Specially as you've never OC'ed before. Also, Ryzen Master, is not the best way to OC your system. The best way is through the bios. You should read/learn about what you want to do, and achieve. This is a great guide for beginners: https://forums.tomshardware.com/faq/cpu-overclocking-guide-and-tutorial-for-beginners.3347428/

Hello,

I've ready so many things online (for instance 1.45-48 is bad and you have to OC manually which is better for the CPU), some others who just suggest to let it on PBO since some cores will be parked and their voltages will be 0.

Anyway whenever I manually OC the voltages are always the same @ 4.2GHz, 1.325v while if I let PBO do it it goes down to 0.9v on idle but 1.46~ on load, I've also noticed that my Cinebench scores are way higher with Manual OC.

What do you guys suggest in the end? I've read so many things online I don't know what to do for my CPU's best behaviour/safest setup.

CPU: 3700X

Cooler: Be quiet Dark Rock PRO 4

Case: NZXT H700

Motherboard: MSI B450 Gaming Plus

r/overclocking on Reddit: Ryzen 7 3700x overclocking
January 20, 2024 -

Hello all I’m a newbie to over clocking and I’ve done some research for what people recommend for my cpu.

My current rig is ryzen 7 3700x, 16gb ram 2x8, rtx 2070 super. My rig is 4 or 5 years old now so It’s feeling a bit slow. I want to squeeze some more frames out so ive done a full pc reset and decided to do some overclocking. I have 2 main games right now and that’s league and Lost ark.

From what I’ve heard my cpu is bottle necking my gpu. I’ve seen people recommend I first that I enable PBO and run a benchmark and see what my peak voltage etc are. I’ve ran the test and my avg voltage during the test was around 1.17~1.18 and my cores speed was around 3770. My cpu temp around the end of the 10 minute benchmark was around 85 degrees celsius. And my cinebench 24 score at the end was 639. I’ve got no clue if that score is good or bad so I’m looking for some guidance. My goal is to just squeeze out some more performance without pushing for anything crazy. Note my PBO settings for the test was 395 PPT 255 TDC 255 EDC, and the cores were all at 3600 and volt being at 1.09375.

Is it worth for me to tweek some more number if so which ones? Ty.

Edit: ive done another test after changed the core speeds to 3700 and voltage to 1.15. Temp was lower at 81~82. I did however notice on ryzen master that only 19% of 225 TDC was used and 27% of 225 EDC was used. Is this normal? or should i lower these values.

There is no bottleneck anywhere, whoever told you that cpu was bottlenecking was high. That system is pretty well set. Your thermals are very very bad. And your settings are WAAAAY too high. That cpu has 65w TDP. that means it pulls around 80-90W normally. Anything above 200PPT is just useless. Problem is: Your temps are too high to give you any real advantage with PBO. Every degree in C more means less performance, even if you were to use a x10 scalar, which I DO NOT RECOMMEND with your thermal solution. That cpu boosts to 4.4 on its own on stock. Aside from that: Both Lost Ark as league are not that intensive games (Lost Ark will run badly in certain situations no matter the oc because of the game's engine and the effects and League is a literal potato game). I highly doubt you would even get anything out of the oc. With a very good OC MAYBE 2-3Fps in Lost Ark if you get your clock without thermal throttle up to 4.6Ghz. I do not see any reason for you to OC either the GPU or the CPU. What could actually give you a meaningful amount of performance could be the RAM tho. You may want to read yourself into RAM OC. If you still want to try the cpu oc, even tho I do not see any value in it, heres what to do. -Download HWInfo and Cinebench. -Go into Bios and change PBO settings to manual, set max cpu clock override to +200 and set pbo limits to Motherboard limits. -Change cpu fan speed and fan case speeds to Max. Open HWInfo with sensoring only and leave it running. -Open Cinebench -Leave Cinebench running (single run is enough) check HWInfo sensoring, search for the PPT, TDC, and EDC values it reached MAX. (its the column in the mid), the values are shown in PPT, EDC, and TDC. -write down the ppt, tdc, and edc values. Check the temperature the cpu reached. If its above 80°C in fhat small test set BELOW the maximum those values reached in the test. -Go into bios and pbo settings. Set limits to manual and go DOWN from the maximum values the cpu reached before or set the values to what the maximum limits reached where +5A on tdc and edc and +5w on ppt. -Change +200 maximum boost oc lower according to what you have seen being reached before. read yourself now into cpu undervolting with pbo. this may shave off around 2-3° on the cpu temp if lucky. If you dont reach anything substential when it comes to clock, I'd say you could just stay at stock settings with pbo disabled. PBO doesnt have a great effect on Zen3 CPUs :( For Lost Ark, a GPU Oc may be more beneficial. For both Lost Ark and League you should try a RAM OC rather than gpu OR cpu OC imo.

Get everything related to over clocking back to stock, and just improve your cooling. That will get you the biggest gains by far.

r/overclocking on Reddit: Ryzen 7 3700x Safe OC
May 23, 2022 -

By safe OC, I mean I don't want to push it to the limits. I want it to run cool, stable, and get good clock speeds. I have a katana 5 tower cooler "cheap not very good. But I assume it's better than stock one."

Should I bother changing the clock speed and voltage or just let them stay at stock speeds?
MOBO "MSI B450-A Pro Max" again, nothing fancy here.

Is it possible to clock it to 4.4 GHZ and stay safe with what I currently have? Or should I fix it to something like 4.2 or 4.0 and give, I don't know low voltage that can handle that and stay cool at the same time?

you might already noticed that I'm not very good at oc'ing and stuff. but any help is appreciated. I currently have 1600x which was running 90+ degrees on stock settings. That's why I fixed that CPU's clock speed to 3.6 with a low voltage, and I'm basically getting more or less the same performance but my CPU is staying nice and cool at 50-60 degrees at max. This is what I'm after.

Download Prime95 and HWiNFO64. Go into your bios and enable Precision Boost Overdrive, leave every other CPU setting on auto. This will essentially remove all power limits from your CPU, allowing us to see what voltage we can use. Open up Prime95 and HWiNFO64, and within Prime95 click: Custom -> “Min FFT size” = 128 and “Max FFT size” = 128, make sure “Run FFTs in place” is selected. Within HWiNFO64, view the sensor that reads CPU Core Voltage (SVI2). MAKE SURE IT IS THE SVI2 SENSOR AS THIS IS THE MOST ACCURATE SENSOR. Allow Prime95 to run for 5-10 minutes, and whatever the lowest value the SVI2 sensor reads is your fit voltage. Now you might be asking: what is fit voltage? Fit voltage is the maximum safe voltage that your CPU can run 24/7 without any degradation. Most Zen 2 processors tend to have a fit voltage of anywhere from 1.25v to 1.32v. Now that you have your fit voltage, go into your bios, disable Precision Boost Overdrive, and set your voltage to that value, and in the box that reads CPU multiple type 42.00x. This means that your CPU will be running at 4.2 GHz. It’s read as a multiple because your motherboard’s BCLK clock speed is 100 MHz, and BCLK clock speed * CPU multiplier = CPU speed (i.e. 100 MHz * 42.00 = 4200 MHz, or 4.2 GHz). If this boots, open HWiNFO and check the SVI2 voltage sensor and your CPU speed. If everything has the correct value, then open Prime95 and run a Small FFT test (maximum power/heat/CPU stress). While this is running, check HWiNFO to make sure the temperature doesn’t get too high (I would say anywhere from 75C-85C is ok). If the test runs for an hour straight without crashing, then it should be stable. If it doesn’t (it probably should as 4.2 GHz isn’t too high of a value for a 3600), then decrease the multiplier to around 41.50x. If it does pass the test, then you can go higher if you like. Try going in smaller increments, such as 42.50x. You can keep going until it crashes, then just decrease the value to the previously known maximum. If you would like an example for a Ryzen 5 3600 overclock, I’m running at 1.28v at 4.4 GHz.

Doing some testing rn , safely ran a 43.0 1.30v while playing warzone for 3 hrs didn’t go above 54°c . 44.0 1.40v @85°c ran a cinebench and passed , if I had a dual or triple cooler I’m sure that’s very sustainable. Dropping voltage right now 44.0 1.395v @83° is the best I could do.
