Best Beginner Digital Pianos Under $500 (Feb. 2025)
May 21, 2025 - That said, they’re affordable, lightweight, and a good fit for casual learners or kids trying out the keyboard for the first time. For around $500, you get 88 fully weighted keys that better mimic the feel of an acoustic piano. These digital pianos are much better suited for learning, offering hammer-action keybeds and improved sound with greater expression. They focus on piano performance rather than extra features. You won’t find hundreds of tones or advanced tools like MIDI recorders, but you will get a solid, beginner-friendly instrument for serious learning.

r/pianolearning on Reddit: Best beginner keyboard with weighted keys?
March 23, 2023 -
I’m going to begin learning piano (technically keyboard) soon, and I’m wondering what the best beginner one is to buy?
Also, how many keys should it have? I plan to keep it for around 3 years before I move abroad.
Thanks

Best weighted keyboards?
You link is for a keyboard that's only semi weighted. Unfortunately to get into the real beginner pianos that are well discussed you're going to have to push the $500 range even used. I've been looking alot on Facebook marketplace in my area. -Roland fp-10 or fp-30x(same keybed different features). -Korg b2 or d1. -Kawaii es110. -Yamaha p45 or p125(Same keybed different features). These are going to be the most discussed beginner pianos by far. Anything else is looked at as something you may quickly grow out of. You might barely even find discussions about anything cheaper. It looks like just some random site but pianodreamers.com has lots of great info. I ended up deciding I wanted to go the vst route. Pianoteq, cfx lite, VI labs.. ect. So I could focus solely on the quality of the keybed. I found a great deal on a Yamaha p45 it's the cheapest on the list above. But I read somewhere it has bad midi velocity info (I really didn't get in-depth on the why) and that it's not that great as a vst controller. So eventually instead I found a good deal on a used fp10 so that was my final choice. They sell a combo version with stand at Costco that's called the Frp-1 More on reddit.com

5 Best Beginner Keyboard Pianos🎹 in 2026 (That I’ve Actually Played)
2 weeks ago - Kinda like the Honda Civic of beginner pianos." ... Why I Recommend It: This thing just feels right. Weighted keys that give you feedback without being stiff, clean piano tone, and a layout that doesn’t try to impress you with a billion flashing buttons. It's like Yamaha knew exactly what you needed and nothing more. ... Best For: Anyone who wants a solid, no-fuss practice piano that feels close to an acoustic.

Best Keyboards for Beginners Under $350 (Apr. 2025)
May 20, 2025 - We’ve already explored sub-$500 keyboards in detail, and I still believe this price range is ideal for most beginners. Keyboards in this tier are perfect for learning the basics and sturdy enough to support you as you progress into the intermediate stages, thanks to their realistic feel and practical features. At $500, you’re getting a full-size, 88-key keyboard with fully weighted keys that replicate the feel of an acoustic piano.

Answer (1 of 5): I bought a keyboard from Radio Shack years ago that was on sale. It is a midi keyboard and has 88 weighted keys and I got an additional discount for taking out a Radio Shack credit card. I ended up paying $283. Granted it only had 5 sounds but I added a Roland sound module also o...
