Pretty much the title. I could, hypothetically, hard wire them but I really prefer not to for a couple of reasons, unless the general consensus is that the battery operated LED lights are just truly not worth it.
My goals are to simply install the strip lights under and above the kitchen cabinets. Ideally, they would also be able to connect with my Google Home ecosystem.
Just wondering what the community thinks are the best options for this scenario.

While you might be able to find some battery-powered LED strip lights, I doubt there are any made that are Wifi controlled, because the Wifi would have to remain connected to the router to be able to receive commands and that would take way too much power! There are a few Wifi magnetic contact sensors available but they don't remain connected to the router all the time; they only connect when the sensor triggers. And because they are not contently connected to the router they first have to negotiate a connection which can take up to 10 seconds to complete. Not ideal for a sensor, but better than nothing, I suppose!

Depends entirely on the amount of light and how much it will be used and your tolerance for changing batteries. A closet where the light comes on for a few seconds a couple of times per day, yeah, no problem. Kitchen accent lights that will be on for several hours every evening, have fun changing batteries every other day. Then there is the environmental impact of disposable batteries. Just bite the bullet and hardwire it. It will be much cheaper in the long run.
