Hey, fellow dads! I have an important question. I have a 2 year old who’s a little over 3 feet tall. We have her car seat rear facing but she’s staring to be really crammed when we sit her in it. Is it safe to flip the seat forward facing and if so, when?

Your seat should say. Generally rear facing is safer if they're still comfortable that way. The goal should be to get them past two rear facing if feasible. Here's the relevant info from my seat manuals. Graco Snugride Snugfit TM 35 LX This car seat is for children 4-35 lb (1.8-16 kg) and 32” (81 cm) or less. Britax Advocate/Boulevard Clicktight Rear Facing: 5 – 40 lbs (2.3 – 18 kg) The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all infants and toddlers should ride in a Rear-Facing Car Seat until they are 2 years of age or until they reach the highest weight or height allowed by their car seat manufacturer. Britax strongly recommends that children ride rear facing to the highest weight or height specified. Use rear facing: • with harness straps in the closest position at or below the child’s shoulders and • with children who weigh 5 – 40 lbs (2.3 – 18 kg) and • when the top of the child’s head is at least 1 in. (2.5 cm) below the top of the head restraint. Forward Facing: 20 – 65 lbs (9.1 – 29.4 kg) Britax strongly recommends that children should be secured with a harness system until they exceed the weight or height limits specified. Use forward facing: • with harness straps in the closest position at or above the child’s shoulders, parallel to level ground and • with children who weigh 20 – 65 lbs (9.1 – 29.4 kg) and • who are 49 in. (124.5 cm) or less in height and • when the top of the ears are below the top of the head restraint Answer from ThunkAsDrinklePeep on reddit.com

October 20, 2023 - Once the harness is coming from below the child’s shoulders, the seat is outgrown, regardless of whether they are shorter than the height limit. The ClickTight’s high top harness height means children can stay harnessed longer, and it would be unusual (thought not impossible) for a child to outgrow the Marathon ClickTight and not be ready to move into a booster.

We have had it since 6-7 months, now at 18 we are still using it. I really really love it. It is SUPER heavy so moving from car to car is obnoxious, but I really love the seat itself More on reddit.com

February 10, 2018 - The top harness height of the Advocate is taller, but this is still a good amount of height for most children. The shoulder height of the Marathon ClickTight can stretch up to 16.95″ while rear or forward-facing, and your child’s ear tips need to be beneath the shell’s top end.

It's also totally fine/normal for their legs to be crossed or forming angles. They don't need enough room to stretch out. Local firefighters for us are the car seat experts and let us know we are still good for rear facing at about 1 meter and around 16kg. The manual for the car seat confirms. Rear face as long as possible is the best advice out there

Does anyone have this car seat? I'm concerned that the harness seems too wide/broad at the shoulders and that the hip harness is too low for my 6 month old. This is a convertible car seat, so it should technically fit a little dude.
We just moved up from the Chicco KeyFit 30 infant seat and that one fit so snug that this one has me concerned.
In advance, thanks

For the shoulders, the clip should be at armpit level (my Marathon manual says nipple height, but who can see nipples?). The hip harness... we never really saw problems with. If you're adjusting the shoulder straps to go into the back of the seat below shoulder level, the tightning strap between the legs should hit pretty right. http://carseatblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/CTMAJackfront.jpg Hope the visual helps. IIRC it landed more flat against the thigh, than against the trunk/pelvis.
