I have a bucktool 1x42 that I’m really impressed with, very well built, sturdy, and quiet. I went with the 1x42 because it has a low and high speed which I prefer as a beginner( more control of material removal and less heat), and it has an 8” disc sander. It would be nice to have 2x the surface area on the belt though. I’d say if you are ok with the speed of the belt and can get some use out out of the bench grinder go for it, I’m sure it will last a long time and is well built. Answer from badco1313 on reddit.com

Hello guys,
You may remember my post asking whether I need to change my 4x36 belt sander.
I did remove a lot of metal from the sides of the belt, but still don't get the freedom I'd like, the machine body still gets in the way sometimes.
I will try to remove even more metal from the body and see how it goes, but in the mean time I'm considering this belt sander:

The support plate behind the belt can be removed which will allow freedom of knife positioning.
The guards are not removable by default though, but people wrote they'd been able to cut them off.
I'm a little worried about it's power. It's 3.5 amps and my 4x36 sander is 4.3 amps... On the other hand a 2" belt probably doesn't need as much power as a 4" belt, right?
This is the most budget 2x42 option in the US ($229 currently, usually about $239-$249), so I'm sure it has its shortcomings, but I don't think I'll be able to get something better in $300 price range?
Please share your opinion on this one.

This is the exact one I have. I wanted to move up from my 1x30 but wasn't ready for a 2x72 just yet. This is perfect for me. I did have to modify it a little bit but that was no biggie. The 2x7 inch platten was a giant convenience coming from the tiny one on the 1x30. Two things: 1) use your dunk bucket often. There is no variable speed motor so the steel heats quickly. And 2) keep the cover closed over on the grinding wheel. It's easy to get caught up using the belt grinder and have a sleeve get a little too close for comfort to that grinding wheel. Does someone know if there's a difference between the BD4801 & BD4801-M?? I know the '-M' stands for metal... but the price difference is not only the kind of belt no? And what would stop me to mount a wood-belt on it??

October 4, 2019 - It is amazing how much metal gets attached to them. The disc sander housing was very rough and chipped. Everything I hated was now different and excellent. The disc has no visible run out on my unit and sands smoothly. You will not go wrong with the Bucktool belt sander.
