EOS R6 Mk.II Wi-Fi connection to phone
I have this camera and use the app fairly frequently so I can speak to its function. I am on iPhone 15 Pro Max. Bluetooth is the default connection. The way I view it, it’s used just to simply make initial contact between camera and phone. The BT connection is primarily used to control basic camera functions and read basic camera info. You can check firmware version/updates, sync date/time from the phone, and sync GPS coordinates which are recorded to picture EXIF metadata. Only if you need to do something that requires higher bandwidth will the camera and phone switch to Wi-Fi. And that is important. Wi-Fi uses more battery power for both devices, and your iPhone is functionally useless at that time. The switch takes a few seconds, but it’s as fast as connecting to any other Wi-Fi hotspot and I wouldn’t expect anything else. Loading images is about as quick as loading previews from the SD card in Lightroom, and transferring images to iPhone is seamless and quick. Again, Wi-Fi is not the default connection and should not be the default connection. Only until you need to use Wi-Fi should the camera and phone connect on that protocol. If my camera is connected via Wi-Fi and I turn the camera off, it’s not going to re-establish the Wi-Fi connection when turned back on. That’s the expected result. It does, however, connect back via Bluetooth within a couple seconds, so long as I haven’t closed the Canon Camera Connect app on the iPhone. Then, within the app, once again, if I request live preview, remote shutter release, viewing images on the camera, updating the firmware, etc., all things that require higher bandwidth, it’ll switch to Wi-Fi again. Occasionally I’ll need to open the CCC app and tap “Reconnect” to re-establish the Bluetooth, but that’s usually only after the camera has been off for a long time and the CCC app times out in the iPhone background. August 3, 2022 - It has to be an HDMI connection, doesn't work over WiFi even though you transfer files over WiFi. And then I had to be very careful to order the right HDMI cable, turns out the Mini HDMI and Micro HDMI are different sizes and it's the latter port that is built into the R6.

r/canon on Reddit: EOS R6 Mk.II Wi-Fi connection to phone
March 19, 2024 -
I am considering the R6 MII as my next upgrade and among the whole slew of specs/reviews on the net, I haven't seen anyone mentioning how fast it makes a connection with the phone on which Canon Camera Connect runs. In my case, an iPhone 14. I am not particularly asking about the Wifi bandwidth/speed. Just how much time it takes I can see pictures on my phone.
Currently I have an EOS RP, and it takes quite a long time after it connects via bluetooth until the wifi connection is established. Has anyone measured the time, and is it reasonable?
Thanks for any info.

I use this feature all the time and it is slow and inconsistent. u/highspeed_usaf did a great job explaining the workflow, but not the frustration that a typical user has. I’m glad we can connect wirelessly and do remote shutter and transfer pictures, but the camera likes to lose the connection to the phone and refuse to reconnect unless you restart everything. It’s amazing how bad the WiFi is in the year of our lord 2024, as if it were a newly invented tech. I have two Canons with this same WiFi chipset and they’re both equally bad, even with line of sight three feet away.
