I shoot with a Canon R6 Mark II and record in C-Log3. I’ve tried Canon’s official LUTs and experimented with different color spaces like Rec.709, Rec.2020, and Cinema Gamut.
Most of my footage is of animals such as; deer, bears, dogs, ducks, geese, bobcats, etc. all shot in 4K. These videos are just for fun, and I like to share some of them on Instagram Reels and TikTok.
That said, I’ve been struggling to get a good color grade. The few clips I’ve managed to shoot and grade just feel off, colors look strange or flat, and I can’t seem to get that vibrant, natural look. For those working with Canon C-Log3:

I’ve used an R6ii since it came out for video (recently got an FX6 though. My recommendation would be to shoot in cinema gamut, used the Phantom LUT (their neutral one) and then add a look LUT that mimics the Fuji eterna (at a low percentage) to get those red tones in the right place. Also one note I’ve noticed is even though iso800 is the Base ISO, I prefer to shoot in iso400 at a loss in dynamic range because it makes the shadows looks much more pleasing.

Hi,
I just got the Canon R6 (Upgraded from EOS R) and wanted to give Log a try. But I always had a hard time finding a LUT for the footage.
Has anyone had some experience with some LUTS?

Boy howdy have I. I was completely puzzled by the Canon LUT download, b ut this guy has some that I got (I think they cost a few $) and they work brilliantly. BTW I got no dog in this fight. So, for example, if you shoot in CLOG3 with BT709 as the color space, you can use his Canon C-Log 3 BT.709 to Rec.709 files--he has a neutral one (ie no compensation) and a series reducing and adding stops so you can adjust the exposure. I find they work quite well. If this is confusing, feel free to DM me for more details.

Hey team,
I thought I'd get fancy with my Canon R6 Mk II and switched on CLog3 for the first time. (Color space was set to BT.709 from what I can tell)
I'm now trying to color grade this in Premiere Pro and struggling.
I was under the impression the first step was a Basic LUT and I applied the CLog3 to Rec.709 LUT I got straight from Canon.
This gives me overly saturated reds and I'm really struggling to bring this back in and make it look right. (see screenshot: on the left, a shot with Clog off, on the right Clog on and LUT applied)
What am I doing wrong? I'm new to this and would appreciate any help.

Right click all of your footage in the bin it’s currently in. Go to modify, color, and tell Premiere that your footage is Clog 3. Alternatively, if you have footage on your timeline, open up the lumetri color workspace and open up the settings tab to tell Premiere that the footage must be Clog 3 in order for it to be converted to rec 709. EDIT: wait, the screen shot you provided on the left looks fine, as if it’s already been converted to Rec709. It doesn’t at all look like it’s flat like it should if it’s just straight log. I’d recommend double checking if the one on the left is already converted to rec 709 and if so, just work with that.

March 26, 2021 - The 33 grid LUTs being described are applicable (as described in the superb write up) for 10 bit cameras - which is what the R6 is shooting in LOG. The R as far as I am aware is 8 bit internally. Its all very confusing and not helped by canon making one download package containing each and every LUT for each and every variation of their LOG profiles!

Hey Canon clog users. My name is Alex and I am looking for a help on color grading my Clog footage from my R6 mark II. I saw this youtube video from a guy and its was one of my favorite grade on the internet for this camera. Punchy colors, great skin tones. Is anyone here know where I can buy this kind of luts? I believe its without conversation to rec709, probably on layer drag and drop and some basic adjustments. Before judging me, I am adjusting my WB correctly, I am exposing correctly, I tried million different ways and expensive luts but I cannot get 10% near his grade and punchy colors. Thanks in advance.

That's a Phantom Luts video, they're my go to. I get the same results just slapping the LUT in, doing an S curve and adjusting the black point in the HDR panel, adjusting contrast/pivot and using a DCTL for color density (google it). It takes like 2-3 minutes. That's the cool thing about Clog3 I guess, less flexibility but stupid easy to get good results.
