Unless you do a lot of road trips with domestic hotel bookings, with your level of travel there's no real need for a dedicated travel card with an AF. With only 1-2 domestic flights a year, even the easy-to-use portal credit on Venture X can become a hassle. I really like the card, but you may end up locking yourself into using the portal for what little travel you do. Also don't know why you need transferrable points if you're only going to fly internationally once every couple of years. It would really be best to identify a specific destination & corresponding transfer partner(s) to target rather than hoping your C1 points would be useful for that purpose. I think it would be a good idea for you to look at your actual spending and go from there. A dedicated travel card might not even make sense if you're only spending a couple thousand a year in travel categories and by your own admission don't care about lounges. Your Savor already has zero foreign tx fee, so you're covered in that respect. Perhaps optimize your next biggest category like gas or get a simple 2% cashback card with no AF to fill in your catch-all spending. Or start with the $95 Venture first and see if you get value from the sign-up bonus points. In terms of discounts/deals, don't expect too much. The cashback offers are largely the same as your Savor, or in other words a few percent back buying through specific merchants. Global Entry credit and Hertz status have been useful for me, but YMMV. VX travel portal does have certain luxury hotels you get cashback or extra benefits with, similar to Amex FHR/Hotel Collection, but I've found it pretty limiting. More on reddit.com

The card checks a lot of boxes It’s a Visa. Works almost everywhere. Even Costco. No FTF No restrictions or issues redeeming points for any travel purchase Those travel purchases earn points as well Car rental CDW Extended warranty No need to learn about a programs or be loyal when there’s a cheaper/better option It’s pretty ok to use as just the one card for people more concerned with their AAoA and who don’t care about a few hundred dollars in cash back. I know best is subjective but for myself and many others, the venture X is in the running for best travel credit card because it’s effectively a zero dollar annual fee card with exceptional benefits. We team it up with the Capital One savor, which is also a zero dollar annual fee credit card to get the multiplier on groceries and restaurants and then convert to miles.
I’m looking to have my wife apply for another travel credit card because they are taking away guest lounge access for the venture X starting next year and I would like her to retain that benefit. I don’t mind entering a new ecosystem, but I wanted to hear everyone’s rationale for their favorite best value credit card in the travel space. Bonus points if there is a decent sign-up bonus, we are planning a trip in January.
I personally loath the American Express style “coupon book” credit cards. I don’t personally get value by forcing myself to use services I wouldn’t normally use just to “recoup” the annual fee of a credit card.

Hi everyone!
I am looking into opening a travel credit card and I am heavily considering the Capital One Venture X.
I am likely to have at least 1-2 domestic flights yearly and maybe an international trip once every one or two years depending on budget.
Lounges are not my main priority, but rather savings, deals, and credit. I initially looked into the CSR, but the annual fee is what is holding me back in addition to wondering if my travel frequency will make the most out of it. Additionally, I also have the old Capital One Savor card (receiving 4% back on dining, groceries, and entertainment) and love the idea of being able to move points around.
For those with Venture X (and also willing to hear about CSR), are you happy with it? What’s your overall experience? How have you made the most of it or what have you gotten out of it?

The VX is essentially fee free after credits. It has a goo sign up bonus and solid earn rates. Given your grandfathered Savor at 4% that could be an excellent combination.
