What's the difference between IIHS and NHTSA safety ratings?
NHTSA uses a five-star rating system to evaluate factors such as frontal crash protection, side crash protection, overall crash protection, and rollover resistance. IIHS uses ratings of Good, Acceptable, Marginal, and Poor; it conducts several tests covering crashworthiness, and it also evaluates headlights. Vehicles with the best scores are given a Top Safety Pick or a Top Safety Pick+ designation.
