Which one would be better for a complete beginner? And please don't recommend anything beyond these two! These were from what I looked up the best in my price range.
I watched a lot of reviews of them and some comparisons but that didn't really sway me to one over the other. So I would appreciate some advice.

Yamaha P-45, definitely. I played on both side by side in a Guitar Center because I was curious about them, and the action on the CDP-S100 and S150 was noticeably worse, despite the very small difference in price. If you've never played on anything else, you might not mind the Casio action, but to me, it still had a bit of that springy feel that's typical of the cheaper synth and semi-weighted actions. The Yamaha P-45 action felt smoother and more responsive.

Yamaha P45 has very good weight that a beginner will find pleasant but also needed for appropriate expression / feedback. Sound is very good and the size is compact

The CDP-S100 does have one feature the PX-160 does not: it can run off AA batteries, something that might occasionally be useful. What about the Yamaha P45/P71? These are great digital pianos as well (the P45 and P71 are identical – the P71 is the exact same piano as the P45 but sold at Amazon only). The reason they are not our first choices is they are normally as expensive as the Casio PX-160, but more equivalent to the CDP-S100 in features.

I'm a beginner is looking to buy a digital piano. I'm really confused between these two models. The Casio has more features but I'm afraid that it sounds worse than the Yamaha. Any opinion or advice would be helpful.

The last time I tried one of the CDP series, it was decent, but I found it noticeably worse than the Yamaha P-45. Granted, that was the CDP-S150, so the S160 could have gotten better. I was expecting them to be pretty similar, but the action on the CDP-S150 just felt springy and cheap. At the time, it was a $50 price difference between the two, and I'd have happily paid the extra $50 for the Yamaha.

When I was looking for a digital piano I had the exact same doubt. From what I have researched, it depends wether you prefer sound quality or more functions. People say yamaha has a better sound in general, especially on lower notes, than casio. CDS-S160 will have more functions overall, and you can record what you play directly on the piano. With yamaha p45 you will have a piano with fewer functions. It has 10 voices, metronome and I think thats it. I ended up buying a p45. For me it was enough for studying at home and I'm very happy with it. I recommend it and I think you can't go wrong with it. But if you think having a few more functions on the device is important, CDP s160 is a nice option too.

I can’t speak to Casio, but personally I found the key action on the FP-10 to be much more satisfying than the Yamaha. It’s the same key action found on some of the much more expensive Roland’s as well. An amazing value honestly.

Agree with happyhippiecamper. I have an FP10 and it’s insane value. I tried the kawai ca48 and a few others below it, none of them match the Roland 10. So yea, it indeed is insane value for money. That said, being the owner of a 2 year old fp-10, it can have 1-2 dead keys like mine does now. Mine isn’t under warranty and the keys are on the edge of the board so I haven’t gotten it fixed yet. Anyway, I think it can happen to any DP. Also, the key action is a bit heavier than acoustic uprights (I have compared it to the kawai k series), but you can adjust it as well. In short, go for the FP10! In fact, nytimes in one of their articles also mentioned that it punches way above its weight

Hey there everyone, so I'm finally picking up a keyboard to learn to play and I've been using FB marketplace to find a deal on a used one as well as reddit to research..
I've narrowed it down to two options:
the Yamaha P-45 and Casio CDP-S110
both are $250. from reading reddit the consensus kind of seems to be to usually pick yamaha if it's an option but i feel like for the same price the casio is a better option perhaps? The slimmer build definitely helps because i have limited space as well but i figured I'd ask around to see what more knowledgeable folks thought. thanks!

Can’t speak for sound, but in terms of touch the P-45 should have the better keyboard for learning piano. Being more compact is unfortunately the opposite of what you want for a piano’s playability.

In my experience with the P-45 compared to older models in the CDP series (the CDP-S100 and S150), the Yamaha had a noticeably better feel. At the time, the CDP model was $50 less than the Yamaha, and I'd have happily paid the difference if I'd been planning to buy (my local Guitar Center had both at the time, so I tried them out.)
