Casio CDP-S150 digital piano review - Pianist's Compass
January 23, 2025 - When I’m talking about beginner digital pianos, Casio is a name that’s always part of the conversation. This time, I’m looking at the CDP-S150, a cheap 88-key stage piano with scaled hammer-action keys.

Yamaha P71B, Roland GO:Piano88, or Casio CDP-S150?

Is this Casio CDP-S150 good for a beginner learning? I’d offer $250.

I have one, can confirm it's good.

Yamaha P45 (550) or the Casio CDP-S150 (479)

Having played both of those side by side in a local store (so not extensive experience, but some familiarization), the big thing that I noticed was that the action on the Casio felt noticeably worse. Personally, given that, I would go with the Yamaha.

If you're in the US, you can get the Yamaha P-71 (an Amazon exclusive variant of the P-45) for less money. While the P-45 recently went up from $500 to $550, the P-71 hasn't changed price, so it's still $480.

Casio CDP-S150 or Roland FP-10

I have both (well, CDP-S100 but it’s almost identical to S150)

If for learning piano I would strongly pick FP-10, the keys just feel much higher quality. Yes I have experienced clicking sound too on FP-10. But the speaker on both Casio and Roland are poor that you would want to practice with a headphone anyway.

r/piano on Reddit: Yamaha P71B, Roland GO:Piano88, or Casio CDP-S150?
October 3, 2021 -

My plans are to keep learning to play various music arrangements, and then transition into composing once I'm comfortable playing tunes from the genres of music I'm looking to compose in. The end goal is to compose digitally, there are some features commonly reccomended on this sub that I don't really care about: I probably don't need a full 88 keys, or weighted keys, I don't plan on ever performing live and will be composing digitally with A DAW that can change the sound being used, so I don't think I need a synthesizer that can produce a wide range of sound effects on it's own. I'm less sure on what other sort of features I DO want to make sure the device will have so that I can start learning composition once I get to that stage.

I've been learning on a cheap (<$100) garage sale find, but it's lower keys bit the dust this morning. I've managed to find a Roland GO:Piano88 for $400, and a Yamaha P71B for $300, my budget is $400(+tax/shipping/etc). There is also a Casio CDP-S150 near me for $470 that is marked as usually being $700? Are any of these going to be good for helping me learn and then later compose, or are there other keyboards I should be looking at in the $400 range instead?

Casio CDP-S100 | CDP-S150 review: Slim, Simple and Affordable
March 18, 2023 - The CDP-S100 is priced in the same group as other sub-$500 pianos, like the Casio PX-160, Roland FP-10, and Yamaha P45. Keyboards and digital pianos in this range don’t offer all the features of their more expensive counterparts, but that’s not to say they aren’t worth considering. CDP-S100 vs CDP-S150: The Casio CDP-S150 was introduced along with the CDP-S100 and is available only in certain regions.
