The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card is a rewards credit card with a $95 annual fee that offers flexible Ultimate Rewards points redeemable for travel, transfers to airline and hotel loyalty programs, statement credits, or cash back at a 1-cent-per-point rate. It earns 5x points on travel purchased through Chase Travel, 3x points on dining, select streaming services, and online groceries, 2x points on general travel, and 1x point on all other purchases. New cardholders can earn a 75,000-point bonus after spending $5,000 within the first three months of account opening.
The card provides valuable travel protections, including trip cancellation/interruption insurance, trip delay reimbursement, baggage delay and loss insurance, and primary rental car collision damage waiver, which can save users hundreds of dollars in rental insurance fees. Cardholders receive a $50 annual hotel credit for stays booked through Chase Travel, which automatically applies each account anniversary year.
A key benefit is the ability to transfer points to a wide network of travel partners at a 1:1 ratio, including major airlines like United, Southwest, and British Airways, and hotel chains such as Marriott Bonvoy and World of Hyatt, enabling high-value redemptions. Points used through Chase Travel can be worth up to 1.75 cents per point due to Points Boost, especially on select flights and hotels.
The card also includes a complimentary DoorDash DashPass membership for at least one year, providing $0 delivery fees and lower service fees on eligible orders, along with a $10 monthly promo for non-restaurant orders, available through December 31, 2027. Additional perks include purchase protection (up to $500 per item for 120 days), extended warranty protection, and access to Chase’s travel and shopping benefits.
For users seeking to maximize value, combining the Sapphire Preferred with other Chase cards like the Freedom Unlimited or Freedom Flex allows for point transfers and enhanced earning potential. However, the card’s value is maximized only when users leverage transfer partners and travel protections; otherwise, higher-earning cash-back cards may be more beneficial. The card is considered a strong choice for moderate travelers and a good entry point into travel rewards, though more premium options like the Chase Sapphire Reserve offer additional benefits such as airport lounge access and higher travel credits.

Folks!!
I have 130K points on a Sapphire Chase card. I need to book a flight from lax to Lhr for a family of five. Per Chase Travel I can redeem my 130K points for around 1600 dollars credit towards ticket cost. Just read about transferring to a airline partner for better redemption value. What partner should I use? Can I price before transfer? Someone give me the step by step to make sure I do this right.

One other note - LHR is infamous as a destination since taxes/fees/fuel surcharges can be quite significant (especially on BA metal). Read up on how to minimize this aspect (a bit older, but https://thepointsguy.com/2018/03/how-to-avoid-british-taxes-and-fees-on-award-trips/ will give you some overview).
Hi everyone,
I’ve been considering a chase sapphire preferred card maybe sometime later this year once I’m ready to use some points for a travel expense. I’m having trouble understanding whether the sapphire card is good for anything else besides just giving access to the travel portal and a slight increased value to UR points. I understand there’s some travel insurances on it but are you guys actually putting spend on the card?
Also I’d like to know how you guys find value in the card itself to justify the annual fee & how long have you had the card? Thanks to everyone for their inputs!
I'm still new to this stuff and only have a Capitol One Quicksilver. Is it worth paying $95 annually for this?
