Under $250 is hard. I spoke to a Sweetwater rep and basically the best “entry level” decent keyboard is alesis recital pro and alesis prestige and those are 379/399 dollars. If you can splurge for more get a roland fp10 or yamaha for 450-550. More on reddit.com

You should understand some compromises. Speakers are heavy. If they are integrated they add weight. Quality keyboard actions are based on weight, so ones with traditional are heavy. Nord has the best action for the weight. If you can afford them, like the esthetic, and can handle the complexity of the interfaces. A controller like the Roland A88 gets you the lightest weight/action quality. But you need to handle sound creation (a laptop or synth), amplification, and speakers separately. A stage keyboard like the Roland RD series has a great action at a lowish weight, but no speakers, and high price. A slab like the Roland FP series has a nice action, speakers, but the ones with good actions are heavy. The cheaper ones tend lighter, but they don't play as well. (They might tell you they have the "same" action, but I don't believe that after playing them) I challenge gigging musicians who think they need 88 keys. It's extremely rare that pieces use the extreme registers, and there's usually an easy work-around when they do. And nobody gets thrown in music jail if you just absolutely cannot make it work and you use the wrong octave. However, the manufacturers understand that players who want traditional actions also want 88 keys, whether or not they really need it, so it's hard to find good actions without 88. That's about all I got. TLDR get a Roland fp 30x, Yamaha p-125, kawai es120, or casio px s-1100. Or the more expensive versions if she can afford them. More on reddit.com
