Hi, guys! I don't usually post on Reddit, but I wanted to reach out to a community who could give me some good advice about a tough decision that I have to make immediately. A couple of months ago, I received a conditional job offer for a cybersecurity internship with the NSA. The nature of this internship would include working with a group of other interns. AFTER receiving the offer and beginning security processing for the past month, I recently learned that I still have an upcoming phone interview. I have no idea how many applicants will be cut. Well, the other day, I received another job offer from a division within CISA. I would be working directly with a team of about a dozen staff members. This job is absolutely guaranteed upon security processing and a drug test. However, I have to accept or decline the offer by tomorrow. I am terrified of rejecting the offer, then subsequently being cut by the NSA. Should I play it safe and go with CISA? Or take the risk? In general, does anyone have any idea or opinion about which agency is more suitable for an aspiring cybersecurity professional? This is such a noobish, stupid question, but in my defense, I have only found vague information about the agencies' cyber missions and their past internships online. Any past interns out there?

We request that you use discretion when discussing your application for employment. You may tell family members or close friends, otherwise we ask that you simply state that you have applied for a government position with the DoD. We also suggest that you refrain from discussing details of your employment processing on social networking sites. My gut feeling is posting on reddit about even an internship would be frowned upon.

Well at a high level, and this is speculation, NSA is generally offensively focused and CISA is generally defensively focused, so it kinda boils down to whether or not you want to go red team or blue team. Also NSA internships are hyper competitive, so if the CISA thing is a shoe in its probably the better choice for resume candy.

I couldn't find the exact info online. According to CISA guidelines i need 2 years of exp in the field to apply for certification because i have done a bach and masters that's relevant, and have 2 years experience in a related field.
In my case i was an IT audit full time intern at a big 4 for 4 months, then i was made permanent. I have 1 year 6 months experience as a full time IT auditor, at that firm.
I cleared my exam last year, and I'm currently in another full time role in IT audit for the last 2 months and I was wondering how much longer i would need to work to earn the certification.
4 months intern IT audit 1 year 8 months full time IT Audit (1 year 6 months + 2 months)
