Bring back "opusplan", why did you remove it in v2.0.0? · Issue #8358 · anthropics/claude-code
September 29, 2025 - opusplan was an option for /model that was available in v1.0.x, which enabled us to use Opus for planning and Sonnet for implementation.

Model configuration - Claude Code Docs
The behavior of default depends on your account type. For certain Max users, Claude Code will automatically fall back to Sonnet if you hit a usage threshold with Opus. The opusplan model alias provides an automated hybrid approach: In plan mode - Uses opus for complex reasoning and architecture decisions

r/ChatGPTCoding on Reddit: Claude Opus 4 being removed from Pro Plan in Claude Code?
July 27, 2025 -

I just had my usage reset, and on my first request I got this error message:

Claude Opus 4 is not available with the Claude Pro plan. If you have updated your subscription plan recently, run /logout and /login for the plan to take effect

Maybe I am mistaken about it ever being available, but /model indicated it was selected (automatic for 50% of usage, then sonnet). Just wanted to throw it out in case this is new :/

So, “Opus for planning / Sonnet for everything else” was there when it was Opus 4.1 and Sonnet 4

then they removed it with Sonnet 4.5, and added it again couple of days later

Then REMOVED IT AGAIN?!!

guys, seriously, the workflow of planning -> executing using Opus for planning and Sonnet for everything else is just perfect in terms of results,

Bring. It. Back.

Introducing Claude Opus 4.5
Early testing shows it surpasses internal coding benchmarks while cutting token usage in half, and is especially well-suited for tasks like code migration and code refactoring. Claude Opus 4.5 beats Sonnet 4.5 and competition on our internal benchmarks, using fewer tokens to solve the same problems. At scale, that efficiency compounds. Claude Opus 4.5 delivers frontier reasoning within Lovable's chat mode, where users plan and iterate on projects.

Claude Opus 4.5, our frontier coding model, is now available in Claude Code for Pro users. Pro users can select Opus 4.5 using the /model command in their terminal.

Opus 4.5 will consume rate limits faster than Sonnet 4.5. We recommend using Opus for your most complex tasks and using Sonnet for simpler tasks.

To get started:

* Run claude update
* /model opus

Been using the $100 Claude Code plan for 2 months. The default /model (Opus for 20% of usage, then Sonnet 4) was meh. Opus burned out in 15 mins on basic tasks, like driving a Ferrari to grab the mail. The new "Opus Plan Mode" is a game-changer! Worked 8 hours today, never hit the Opus limit. Opus handles the big thinking, Sonnet cranks through the work. I push back on plans until they're spot-on, and I 1 shot complex tasks all day. I skip heavy configs since Claude Code updates often as I'm here to get stuff done fast, not master it. If you haven't tried Opus Plan Mode, you're missing out!

Claude Opus 4.1
For the Claude 4 family of models, we continue to use the same simple scaffold that equips the model with solely the two tools described in our prior releases here—a bash tool, and a file editing tool that operates via string replacements. We no longer include the third ‘planning tool’ used by Claude 3.7 Sonnet.

r/ClaudeCode on Reddit: Downgrade to the earlier version of Claude Code to restore Opus
1 week ago -

I don't know what on Earth happened to Opus but it's been awful these past two-three days.

BUT I saw someone on X say that downgrading the CLI to v2.0.64 improved Opus 4.5 performance significantly, and I tried this. It made a huge difference.

Something is wrong with the current harness.

To downgrade:

Would like to hear your input on this as well.
