June 5, 2025 -

/cost doesn’t tell me how many tokens I’ve used. But after 4 hours I’m at my limit. My project is not massive, and I never noticed more than a few k tokens on occasion. It would be good to know what the limits are and I might move to max.

How many tokens does Claude Code Pro allow? ($17/month plan)
Most people are of the understanding that the "token rate" we get scales depending on server load. So there isn't a static amount and you will feel like you have less on some days. I'll put it like this: If you buy Pro, even on Sonnet you'll want to take some breathers in the 5 hour period, do the prompting on the side while you do other stuff. If you buy Max x5, you can use Sonnet all day (most days) without regard for how much you're using it. There are sometimes cases where the server is clearly under heavy load and it was SUPER obvious when WIndows got added to Claude. 20% of your tokens that can be used for Opus, but honestly you barely get any Opus unless you're doing work at like 5am EST. It blows thru the shit like crazy. If you buy Max x20, unless it's a CRAZY busy day you can use Opus for the full 5 hours most times, or you'll hit your limit toward the end of your 5 hour session. Sonnet, I've never hit the limit even while spinning up 6-7 sub agents to accomplish large tasks. Sonnet is enough, Opus can still be dumb and Pro can also serve a good purpose if you're taking it easy. Edit: None of this is confirmed, just what I and others have observed so I could be super wrong. More on reddit.com

Claude code Pro, 4 hours of usage.
Wow. 4 hours is way longer than I expected, even with a smaller project. Need to give it a go myself! More on reddit.com

Claude Code Limit Hit on Max Plan?! What to do next: | by Sevak Avakians | Medium
October 3, 2025 - Nope, I had it in “Opus Plan Mode”: Use Opus 4.1 in plan mode, Sonnet 4 otherwise. Hmm, maybe its a bug. Let me switch to “Default”: Opus 4.1 for up to 50% of usage limits, then use Sonnet 4.

r/ClaudeAI on Reddit: How many tokens does Claude Code Pro allow? ($17/month plan)
July 20, 2025 -

Considering signing up for Claude pro and will likely be using it to generate tests and fix up the codebase. Main concern is not having enough tokens to use then being suddenly cut off for the rest of the month. Does anyone know how many actual tokens I can use? Their marketing says:

"If your conversations are relatively short, you can expect to send at least 45 messages every 5 hours, often more depending on message length, conversation length, and Claude’s current capacity. We will provide a warning when you have 1 message remaining. Your message limit will reset every 5 hours."

45 messages doesn't sound like much and doesn't help me get a sense of how much I can use before hitting limits..

What are claude code usage limits like with pro subscription?
April 30, 2025 - My tip: try batching or chunking your tasks into smaller pieces if you gotta stick with the $20 plan. Also, keep an eye on how many API calls your sub-agents make — optimizing that could keep you below limits and still get the job done.
