I really want to try a manual grinder I just don't know if i'm ready to put up the $200 to get a reputable one. There are a few ($40-60) on Amazon that I was thinking of trying just to see. I mostly drink from French press if that makes a difference. Am I better off putting that money towards a nicer grinder or should I try it?

I'd start with the Hario Ceramic Coffee Mill -Skerton Pro is well worth the $60. I've had the original/slim/pro versions and the Pro is the best it fixes all of the original issues.
If you really want to step up a notch in hand grinders I'd look at the Knock Aergrind it fits your budget ($160). Yes it's not a ceramic but it's a dual bearing grinder with coated blades for better consistency. It will do Espresso all the way to French Press grinds. It surprised me.
Not loving my hand crank and all the searches in this sub for electric grinders have people recommending $185 grinders.
I want something that won't break the bank.
Edit: Went with this one: Secura SCG-903B Automatic Electric Burr Coffee Grinder Mill, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012F9QGW4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_hLbyxbXJDJFXA
