Is the Security+ worth a damn?
Security+ is a foundational certification. It is a broad-based introduction to a wide range of security concepts including personnel management, facilities management, risk management, IT infrastructure and other areas. The intent of this cert it to expose learners to the range of security areas so that they may find areas of interest then pursue specialization from there. Some organizations and companies require Security+ certification as a condition of employment so that the foundation exists. Then they lead employees toward appropriate specializations. US Government employees and contractors who work with IT and other secure infrastructures (building security, etc.) must hold Security+ under 8570 compliance. Hope this helps. Best in your studies and career pursuits. More on reddit.com

CompTIA Security+: SY0-601 Certification Guide by Ian Neil
So, I just took the Sec+ test yesterday and passed at the first try. I didn’t have any IT background and was not even familiar with computers at all. After I used Ian Neil’s book, I could catch up much easier and faster than I expected. The contents of his book were really straightforward and well-organized. I had a lot of help out of his book. Also, the professor Messer’s videos supported understanding the Ian’s book much better. More on reddit.com
