How difficult is the degree and how heavy is the maths workload, because from what it seems it is like 99% coding and no maths/physics. How difficult it is depends on your previous experience. Coming in with no coding background I am finding it manageable but some subjects require more work than others. First year second semester is a bit rough if you do it as prescribed, because they hit you with 2 challenging programming units at once. It's doable but you'll need to be somewhat dedicated. There are 2 units that are maths heavy, CAB203 Discreet Structures and CAB301 Algorithms and Complexity. Other CS units you do will typically have a small element of maths in them, for example graded weekly exercises will sometimes have you solve maths problems (matrix multiply, fibonacci etc) using programming. If you want maths and physics, there are minors you can do (you choose 2 minors). For example, doing both the Computational + Simulation Science minor and the Data Science minor would see you doing a lot of that. What would be a better option out of these 3 unis? Software engineering or Computer Science at RMIT Melbourne, Software Engineering at Uni of Canberra or the Comp Sci degree at QUT. Where do you live? If you're in Brisbane QUT will likely be the best option. I have a friend who did Software at RMIT and has a good job in DevOps. But I also know of many people who graduated from QUT and are doing well too. Is the bach of IT (Computer Science) degree at QUT ACTUALLY considered a proper CS degree? or is it an IT degree. It's an IT degree. But employers will consider a CS major the same as a named CS degree. QUT's degree has a number of 'real-world' subjects that many pure CS curriculums don't have, for example a unit on project management frameworks and a unit on software development concepts like git, unit testing etc. If you want pure computer science, you may find the course lacking but practical experience in these areas are often more valued than some of the deeper theoretical stuff a pure CS degree would teach you. How likely am I to get accepted. If I meet the 70 atar requirement would it be highly likely to get in or is there limited spots. Also if I was to fall short and get an atar of 65-69.95, could I still get in. Lack of international students means that there are more places than ever. If you want to go into an advanced degree program, you'll need an undergrad degree from a traditional school. If you're not going into an advanced degree program and you just want to learn the fundamentals of computer science, you should just do whatever you want to get you there. That can mean Khan academy, or doing a full online degree. It really doesn't matter. For a job, all that really matters is how you interview, the tech stack you can demonstrate your knowledge with, your communication skills and how hard you're willing to work. Coding bootcamps can help, but they're going to leave a lot of fundamentals out that you may actually want to learn (you're not going to write a compiler for example). I recommend reading a CS syllabus and reading list from a major program, picking the stuff you want and finding resources that teach that, be it bootcamps, MOOCs, whatever. I don't think the traditional CS curriculum is great for people who just want a career path with a good salary and opportunity for growth into management. I have a CS PhD.
