The width of your confidence intervals is dependent on the standard deviation of your sample, not its mean. If you assume some value for the standard devation, you can compute the width of your target confidence interval using the t distribution. Solve for n to get your target width. More on reddit.com

Hello! I need help with the Ti-84 calculator. “Construct a 99% confidence interval for the population mean, μ. Assume the population has a normal distribution. A group of 19 randomly selected students has a mean age of 22.4 years with a standard deviation of 3.8 years.” Here are my attempts so far:
