I had gorgeous cork floors in my kitchen. After just a couple of years, though, they started showing wear at the joints. I don't know why, but eventually you could delineate each tile, one from the next. We wound up pulling them out after maybe seven or eight years and installing ceramic tile. While the cork was down, though, we loved it. It was warm underfoot, sufficiently resilient that a knife that fell blade down "healed" itself and didn't show a mark, and dishes typically didn't shatter when they hit the floor. We love our cork! We've had it in our living room, hallways, and kitchen for two years. Don't worry about water... spills aren't a big deal. I suppose they could be if you let them sit for a long time, but it hasn't been an issue for us. The biggest problem we have had is with a large (110 lb) dog. We struggled to keep our dog's nails clipped short enough to not be a problem, so we've got a few places (near the kitchen table) where he liked to hang out and the floor got dinged quite a bit. It's more noticeable in the kitchen which has a dark stain. The natural cork in the living room has dog scratches too, but they are hard to see since the cork is the same color throughout. If we were to do it again we'd do the natural cork in the kitchen as well. Our cork had 3 layers of polyurethane applied after being glued down. We did have to install a new sub-floor for the cork which added to the expense, but we're glad we did. Anyway, good luck with the decision! If we hadn't done cork we would have done bamboo and I think you'll be happy either way. More on reddit.com
