Costco Canada exclusively accepts Mastercard-branded credit cards for in-store purchases at its warehouses and gas stations, including Costco.ca. The only Visa cards accepted are the Costco-branded Citi Costco Visa, which works internationally, including in Canada. Non-Branded Visa cards are not accepted in-store, though they may be used online at Costco.ca. The CIBC Costco Mastercard is the primary credit card offered by Costco Canada, providing up to 3% cash back at restaurants and Costco gas stations, 2% at other gas stations and Costco.ca, and 1% on all other purchases. This card is available with no annual fee and is designed specifically for Costco members, redeeming rewards annually as a Costco gift certificate. Other Mastercard options such as the Rogers World Elite Mastercard, BMO CashBack World Elite Mastercard, and President’s Choice Financial World Elite Mastercard also offer cash back or points on Costco purchases, with varying annual fees and reward structures.

On vacation in Banff and Jasper and was picking up food yesterday at the Costco in Calgary. Was paying for groceries and realized they wouldn't accept our Citi Costco card or any of our Chase cards with no foreign transactions fees. People in line understandably were starting to get impatient. Luckily had my Ally Debit card saved on my phone.
Maybe this is widely known but just wanted to let people know.
EDIT: based on comments, sounds like Costco Canada (and other international Costcos) does accept Visa Citi Costco CC but not any other visa cards. Possibly have to use a chip card reader and not tap to pay.

PSA: Costco in Canada only accepts MasterCard (not Visa)
As Costco is classified as a wholesale store by Mastercard and they also only accept Mastercard, the only card I've found that specifically gets a multiplier at Costco is BMO's Air Miles cards. However, this forces you to collect Air Miles which is kind of dead and not ideal... anyone know of any other card that fits that niche? I do the majority of my grocery shopping there and the actual CIBC Costco Mastercard is just a basic 1% for in-store. Thanks!
