Hi all,

I am currently on an Android phone and am planning to buy an iPhone in the near future. In preparation, I have started to make a new iCloud account, but it seems certain things like mail can only be fully set up on an Apple device, and I do not currently own one.

Is there any way around this or can I not fully complete the setup until I get an Apple device?

Hello all,

I am wanting to create a new iCloud account due to personal reasons. The issue is there are certain things I want to keep from my current ID and move to my new one once created. These would be my contacts, photos, notes, and apps. How do I go about this? I am not switching devices, this is all on the same phone. Basically there is only some information I want retained and if there’s a way to do that, kindly give me a step by step on how.

Possible but this won’t be fun. You need to make sure everything is downloaded locally, photos, notes, messages, etc. After everything is downloaded sign out of your Apple ID in settings. You will receive several alerts asking if you want to remove iCloud data, contacts, photos, etc or keep them on the device. Select keep. After you sign out you can sign in with the new Apple ID. During sign in you will be asked if you want to remove the existing data or merge the local data with your Apple ID. Select Merge. Now apps. This is going to be the unpleasant part. Every app you have installed technically belongs to your original Apple ID. Even if you leave them there when you try to update them you will be prompted for the old Apple ID. You will need to take note of every app you have and then uninstall all of them and re-download them with the new ID. Good luck

You cannot move apps from one Apple ID to another. They are bound to the Apple ID that was used to purchase them in the first place. You could open an iCloud family and have both Apple IDs be part of that family. This way you will always have access to the apps you purchased with the old Apple ID, even though you are locked into your new Apple ID on your phone.

Hello,

I cant get a straight answer to this question and I've spent hours trying to research online. I've had my current apple ID (which is an @ icloud.com email address) for over a decade. Due to using that email for logins for so long and all of the data breaches that happen daily these days I now get around 200+ spam emails per day. Now that Hide My Email is a thing, etc I want a fresh start and want to change my appleID to a new icloud email address.

What I cant seem to confirm is if I sign into appleid.apple.com and click on the top left "Apple ID" tile to change my apple ID:

Will I be able to enter the new icloud.com email address I want created?
If so, and I proceed with changing my apple id will the original email still be available and linked to the account so that I have time to switch over to it?

For example if my current AppleID is [email protected] and I sign into appleid.apple.com and click Apple ID and enter [email protected] will it create that email address and change my appleid over to [email protected] and then I'll still have access to [email protected]?

you could create an alias and only use that to send and receive email. This means you can keep your existing Apple ID.

Unfortunately, Apple will not allow you to switch from one @icloud.com to another @icloud.com account. I’ve been in a similar situation and have two Apple IDs. I’ve tried multiple times over the years to make my 2nd iCloud my main account and it says: “You can only add the @icloud.com address that is already on file in your account.” I’ve called Apple Support on this as well and get the same answer.

It does not seem possible to create an iCloud-only Apple ID after the fact.

However, you can create such an Apple ID during the initial setup process of an iOS device or macOS user account.

I've confirmed that this works from both iOS and macOS. Wipe an iOS device or create a new macOS user account and you will be allowed to create a new @icloud.com address rather than provide a 3rd party email address.

you can manually transfer like some data, but apps and purchases are tried to your apple account, and as far as I know there's no way to transfer those

You wouldn’t lose them exactly… Apps are linked to the account that purchased them, meaning you’d need to sign into the account when updating. So long as you choose, keep data when signing out of the shared Apple account (and no data is ‘offloaded’), data will remain on the device and sync to the new Apple account after sign in. (This situation is exactly what Family Sharing is for)
