I think you're referring to stock tickers, not stock links. Stock links go on packagers that are connected to your storage. Stock tickers are what you seat mobs or place blaze burners next to for accessing the inventory of all your storage. Use attribute filters (made with brass nuggets and wool blocks) to make categories by placing an item that has the same attributes as other items. For example, if you want to sort all Create components (mechanical drills, harvesters, casings, etc), right click in the air with the attribute filter, place any Create component inside the attribute slot and select the "was added by Create" attribute and click the + icon in the right side. Then, right click the stock ticker and place that filter in an empty category slot and name it what you would like. Now when you click the mob that's the clerk, everything that fits that attribute will be sorted into its own category. There is a possibility that items will have attributes that fit in several categories you created and they will show up in all that apply. Hi guys, I just built my very first storage system and I'm eager to start using it, but I ran into a problem trying to use categories on the stock link.
With chests, I usually have some labelled "stone", which contain all my stone blocks and their building variants like slabs and stairs. Then I also have one or two chests labelled "wood" which contain logs, planks, stairs, slabs, sticks, etc.
For my stock link, I'd really like to use similar categories. The only way to do so with filters that I know of is to manually specify each and every item in a regular filter, since I don't see anything on the attribute filter that could help with this.
Does anybody know if there's a quicker way to specify which items go in which category? If not, I'd love to know how you use categories, if you use them at all. Thanks!

I doubt this will work unless someone makes an add on mod to make them work together. And honestly? I wouldn’t be surprised if someone did. If not with RF then at least with ae2.

Idk how you expect it to work. It is not an inventory. Its purpose is to let the player send a signal to a packager with a stock link. if you want any storage mod to connect to it i think the closest you could get is making it display whats in the system without being able to pull the items out since there is no way for the ticker to output any items.

What the title says, after having played around a bit with the new update, I'm wondering if you can link multiple stock links to one stock ticker, seeing as I can't fit all of my items in one item vault

You link them all together into one network and the ticker let's you access this network. Make sure there actually is a way to move packages from all those vaults else they will pile up somewhere and you will get confused and angry why it doesn't work.

in an attempt to make my central storage (a sophisticated storage multiblock) faster at distributing, i added multiple stock link packagers. However, this just means my stock ticker thinks there's multiple times more items in storage than there actually is. this breaks my factory gauges since they're promising items that don't exist and stopping requests before targets are met. is there a way to make this work?

Are those two stock links connected to the same stock network? If so, that's your problem. Multiple stock links on the same network measuring the same inventory—even with separate packagers measuring it—will read the contents multiple times. (In your case, with two links reading the same inventory, you should see double of what's actually available.) Remove one of those links and you should see the number become correct again.

The only way I could think of to solve this would be to break your storage into multiple separate storages, so that each package reads its own inventory and no inventory is read twice.
