Hi All, I've recently started following cricket and I'm quickly falling in love with the sport, even to the point where I'd love to learn how to play. I live in England and I'm 32 and after a good few googles I'm not really finding a place for a complete beginner to learn as an adult, there are plenty of kids courses and clubs. Is there anything anyone could suggest? I apologise if this is question is too general! Thanks for any help in advance!

The most important things to do are to learn to bat and to field. Bowling would be a much lower priority - I imagine it'd be quite difficult to pick up as an adult. There are plenty of youtube videos covering basic technique, but to practice them you'll need to find a local low grade team who have regular nets sessions. See if you can identify the more experienced & skilled players, and ask if they'd give you pointers on how to improve & feedback on what you're doing wrong. Take your turn padding up in the nets & practice the basics of what you're learned - don't just try to slog the ball but concentrate on technique. Get used to fielding, how to stop a ball & how to catch etc. A good fielder is always valued, a poor one is not.

I'm sure most clubs would be happy to accept a new player - there's always room in the 3rd and 4th teams

I am a 22 year old former university level athlete who is wanting to learn how to play cricket and compete. I am very dedicated to my interests and want to not only learn how to play, but become great at this sport. I would love to get more information and get involved with the sport.

Unfortunately there are no cricket clubs/training centers within actual Houston. Pearland has a thriving center at Moosa Cricket Stadium. Katy has a few grounds and teams that play. Prairie View has a whole setup. There are informal groups that play tape tennis cricket in parking lots but not ideal for learning.
