Hello, everyone! 🤗 I was wondering how there phone upgrades work. Do existing customers get really good deals? (I heard they give poor deals ... ), how long does it take after you purchase an device for your eligibility to upgrade? (It shows upgrade ready in my app - even though I got my device on the 3rd - seems inaccurate?), and do I need to trade-in my current device to get a new phone one, and can upgrades happen online even though I opened up my account in-store?

Honestly, current/active subscribers are the ones that get shafted the most it seems. Most upgrades seem to require new lines/numbers to take advantage of. Case-in-point the Razr 2024 upgrade. If you port in your number, it's $49. If you add a line, it's $99. If you're upgrading, it's $299. Also, make sure you do as much ordering and activating online as you can. The other way they really get you is if you have to go into the store for anything.

Cricket is fine, but they do not offer their existing customers upgrade deals. It's actually a joke that they even suggest that they do. New customer's get the deals, and that's it. Doesn't really make me want to stay with them, when I can just take my number to any other prepaid providers. They don't care, so I don't care either lol

Hi all. I ordered an upgrade (been a cricket customer for a few years). Hoping the switchover process is easy lol. It only let me order 1 phone. I have 4 lines. It is weird and irritating and made me question my life choices 🤣
do I really have to do 1 line at a time?!
2)If I go in the store to grab a phone for another line, will I get charged both an upgrade fee and an activation fee? 3)If I buy a cheap cricket phone from Walmart, will cricket still charge the activation fee? And would I just switch the sim, or need to go thru a process online? Or is that a bad idea? 4)I got charged $25 to upgrade my phone. Do these upgrade fees come as a credit on the next months phone bill (text from them made me wonder)? ❤️Thanks for your help and patience ❤️ I sometimes interpret things in a less normal manner lol so I really wanted to ask y'all for help and make sure I'm on the right path and don't mess things up.

if u buy a phone from an external source; not directly from cricket, you can just swap the sim into it or for eSIM only iPhones, call/chat with them and request an esim

Normally when you upgrade a phone with cricket they are going to charge the $25 fee. I can’t answer the question about the multiple lines, cause I only have 1 line. When I’ve upgraded my phone with Cricket to a new phone, I paid for the New phone + the $25 upgrade fee(which I think the Upgrade fee is ridiculous) I’ve bought unlocked phones from EBay before and just Taken the SIM card out the old Phone and put it Into my New Unlocked Phone, No issues. As long as you dnt upgrade your phone by using cricket in store or online for a phone, and you get a Unkocked phone from a 3rd party Then you’re not getting an upgrade through them, so No $25 upgrade fee. Only time I’ve bought a phone from Cricket is when they have a really good deal offered. Then I just signed up as a new customer, With a new number, then when getting it in, have it merged to your already existing Cricket account Then a day or so later cancel the number, Use the new phone. Lol I actually got this advice from someone that worked at cricket and worked great. If I were you I’d suggest getting an unlocked phone from wherever, then just using it to bring to cricket as your upgrade. Same with the other lines on your account.

It really sucks that existing customers get a discounted upgrade, but it's more expensive than new customers, and we also get dinged by an upgrade fee... AND an activation fee if you have it done at the store...
This has always been an issue with me.
Cricket is still too good a deal for me to leave because of it...
I just feel they could reward loyal customers a little more.

I haven't bought a phone through cricket since I joined. When I need/want an upgrade, I buy an AT&T or global unlocked phone, pop in the sim and I'm done. It's cheaper and allows for a lot more options than what they offer.

As someone else said, the upgrade and activation fee are the same thing. Also new customer aren’t really paying less, they are paying for the first month of service and fees, so it ends up being the same if not more.

November 10, 2017 - You can “bring” your own device anytime by just simply swapping SIM card. Or buy a new SIM card and activate it on your own personal device for new accounts. I just did this recently with a relative. Now for buying those cheap/sweet deals from cricket, it requires an “upgrade” charge of $25.
