Filling CSS will likely put you in need-aware category for admissions. Do not fill it if you do not need Financial Assistance in any form - loans, financial aid, etc. Also, you should not selected financial aid required in common app. Merit Aid works differently. You will be automatically considered for Merit-aid if you apply by certain deadlines that vary by school. For USC (southern cal.) if you are eligible for it, they would let you know shortly after the admit letter is released. These will be clearly laid out on the websites for each school. If you can’t find those pages on your own, simply google “[school name] international financial aid.” Which schools have you applied to? The vast, vast majority of US schools are need-aware for international students, which means they require your financial information in order to review your application and make a decision. Note: I would be shocked to find that you haven’t already missed the deadlines for every school you’ve applied to. More on reddit.com

Yes, international students fill out the CSS profile if they are applying for need-based aid. Some colleges also accept the ISFAA (International Student Financial Aid Application). The CSS profile is filled out online, while the ISFAA is a similar paper-based form you can send to some colleges, and it comes for free. However, the CSS profile costs $25 to send first and then $16 for each college. (unless you can get waivers, usually not available for international students). Hi all I want to apply for merit-based scholarships and am not financial need for USC specifically. I am an international student and I know applying to financial need will damage your chances for admissions so I want to avoid that.
I am only asking whether or not I need to apply the CSS profile if I want merit based scholarships or any scholarships that wont damage my chances.

My question is that when do you make your CSS Profile and give your financial documents to universities? I'm confused because a lot of people around me say that I have to share my documents AFTER I get my admission and BEFORE my Visa. But then there are people who say you HAVE to make a CSS Profile and share your documents as you apply to Universities.
I have applied to a total of 5 unis only and I've mentioned that I'm a FGLI student (Pakistani student for more context) and I'll be requiring aid. And I have submitted my application. I did make a CSS Profile account but I'm yet to fill it with details.
So if anyone can actually guide me on this because this is confusing as hell.
