I have a cub cadet SLX54 and after pulling it out from the winter it just does a single click when I try the key. Things I’ve done:
1-charged the battery on the bench with charger. 2- tried the repair feature of the charger 3- replaced the starter solenoid
Still nothing. Battery shows 12 volts with tester. Could it be the starter? For context, it has about 300 hours on it. I do get an oil warning on the tiny display but the oil looks good and it low. Any ideas?

Okay y’all, this sounds like an easy electrical fix but I don’t know what else to try. This is my first time working on a tractor (2012 Cub Cadet LTX 1040) so maybe I’m missing something simple. Previous owner had it sitting outside. He said it ran last year. Had a picture in the posting with the lights on.
Symptom: Nothing happens when I turn the key to accessory or start. No headlights, no hour meter, no solenoid click or starter turn.
What I’ve done so far: Mower has parking brake engaged (I see the pedal pressing the switch), in neutral, sitting on seat (made sure safety switch is plugged in too). I’ve inspected wires and there are no loose ends or breaks.
-
Charged the battery, tested battery, and tried a second battery
-
Jumped the starter solenoid, engine cranked strong
-
Tested the solenoid with power and multimeter, has continuity and clicks
-
Tested and cleaned the starter switch, all of the posts have continuity in their correct positions in relation to the key turn
-
Sanded all the contact points for ground and terminal
Should I test the seat switch?
I know the best thing is to get a John Deere🤣 Any help, tips, and recommendations are appreciated!
I have a cub cadet XT2 that won’t start. When the key is depressed there’s just a single click from the front of the Kohler engine (pic 1). I’ve done the following
Changed the solenoid.
Checked battery for charge and amps. All good
Cleaned out rodent nest behind the ignition
Checked the starter by jumping it directly from the battery. It turned the engine over.
Cleaned the ground to the frame.
All the wires look fine. I thought they might be chewed but all look good. I can’t figure out what else it could be. Here’s the odd part. There’s continuity across the solenoid without pushing the key. The continuity breaks when the key is pushed.
Any tips on what I should look at?
My uncle has a Cub Cadet zero turn lawn mower with a Kohler engine and he’s having issues with it not turning on. He thought it was the battery, replaced it and still not turning on, thought the battery he bought might’ve been dead from sitting on the shelf so he charged it and still nothing. I went to help him and we removed the starter and it seemed fine, reinstalled it and jumped the starter directly and it turns over but when we use the key we just here a single clank noise and it doesn’t turn over. Is there some kind of relay or something online with the wiring that could be preventing it from turning on? Like I said, I put power directly to the starter and the engine did turn over but just a single clank when turning the key. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
