Let me start by saying this CAN STILL BE STOPPED & PREVENTED.

But, It will take US PEOPLE from the community coming together, to EMAIL (see below for details), or better yet, ATTEND the next Community Board meeting, and by simply making the very easy case for why this should NOT be approved.

The same developer behind CubeSmart on Morgan Ave Between Johnson and Ingraham, is on the verge of getting approval to upzone the adjacent FedEx parking lot, to build a 240,000 square foot private art storage facility (basically a refrigerator for people living on 57th Street in Manhattan or in another country, to send their butler back and forth to drop off and pick up their so called art).

It will be even MORE lifeless than CubeSmart (if that is possible).

And if approved, the Community Board will be giving this away for FREE (they do not have the legal right to do this w/o the board).

No housing.

No jobs.

No community benefit.

And the kicker? They barely pay taxes on it.

The Morgan L community is not in the business of handing out $40 - $50 million dollars worth of free development rights for nothing.

And beyond the money, this damages the past, present, and future of the neighborhood.

One CubeSmart was more than enough.

And the following proposal is going to be significantly larger by close to 100,000 square feet and over 30 feet taller than the first.

The truth is that the Morgan L neighborhood is technically part of Community Board 1, but it has very little representation compared to Greenpoint and Williamsburg.

So without a proper site visit, without hearing from residents who live here, and without most people even realizing it is happening, the Board is about to approve a massive change to one of the most transit-accessible corners in Brooklyn.

And for what?

To build a temperature-controlled vault for the wealthiest people in the world to store their most valuable tax-shielded paintings. That is ludicrous.

The developer is on record very recently, celebrating how profitable this business is.

In a recent Crain’s article about UOVO’s Queens facility, they reported 13.1 million dollars in net income in 2023 alone at that one property.

Clients include the Met, Chanel’s chairman, and global collectors like Juan Antonio Pérez Simón.

Some tenants pay nearly 100 dollars per square foot in rent. Delinquencies are rare, because as they proudly say, people who can afford the art can afford to store it.

This is NOT for Bushwick.

This is NOT for East Williamsburg.

This is NOT for anyone who actually lives here.

It can STILL be stopped.

But ONLY IF we show up and take action!!
