I can tell you not to do mine. I decided to do how law enforcement are reacting and responding to cybercrime and how they intend to grow this area as crime rates are growing. Don’t do this, there is no information in this area as law enforcement is more secretive with their practices and with this still being a new field there are few good publications. I would stay away from anything involving law enforcement or legal. More on reddit.com

August 6, 2021 - For beginners, this is a good project. SQL Injection is one type of Cyberattack, wherever website hackers perform SQL commands on the victim’s site which have extremely little Cybersecurity. Remember that it is not authorized, therefore before checking on any website, you need to take former consent from the website owners. Most of the website owners will not permit it; therefore you might have to create a new website, to test its susceptibility within SQL. This security project is very helpful when you delete a file by mistake & there is no chance to recover it back, then it is used to retrieve the file.

Cybersecurity is evolving so quickly that final-year projects can genuinely contribute to the community, Shaheryar Ali , and it is an interesting field where engineering and security research overlap. One promising direction is building AI-assisted threat analysis tools that go beyond traditional IDS/IPS models by focusing on explainability and real-time context — explainable machine learning helps analysts understand why a threat is detected and supports decision making rather than just flagging an alert [1]. Another strong project idea is developing a machine learning-guided malware behavior analysis/emulation framework that leverages dynamic behavioral features (e.g., API calls, control-flow patterns) to model and simulate malware without running unsafe samples, which can give analysts safe, interpretable insights into threat behavior [2].
You could also work on projects that support secure software engineering practices, which is an area where practical tools are still needed as research matures. An impactful example is creating an AI-assisted secure code generation or auditing assistant that flags insecure API patterns, suggests hardening rewrites, and integrates static analysis with intelligent reasoning to help reduce vulnerabilities in code [3]. Another direction is building automated digital forensics pipelines that leverage machine learning for artifact classification, timeline reconstruction, and anomaly reporting to accelerate investigations. All of these ideas have real value to the cybersecurity community because they extend current research into usable engineering tools and help bridge the gap between academic research and real-world defensive capabilities.
