is a 1993 American coming-of-age comedy film written and directed by Richard Linklater. The film follows a variety of teenagers on the last day of school in 1976 in an unnamed Texas town, capturing the chaos of hazing rituals, parties, and the transition into summer. It features an ensemble cast of actors who would later become stars, including Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Milla Jovovich, Parker Posey, Adam Goldberg, Rory Cochrane, and Anthony Rapp. The story centers on characters such as Randall "Pink" Floyd, a star quarterback refusing to sign a clean-living pledge, and Mitch Kramer, a bullied freshman seeking revenge.
The film was shot in Austin, Texas, though it draws inspiration from Linklater’s own adolescence in East Texas. It was produced by Alphaville and Detour Filmproduction, with distribution by Gramercy Pictures. Released on September 24, 1993, the film had a budget of $6.9 million but grossed only $8.2 million at the box office, making it a commercial disappointment initially. However, it later gained a cult following through home video and is now regarded as a classic.
Critics have praised the film for its authentic and humanistic portrayal of teenage life, with Roger Ebert calling it "art crossed with anthropology" and noting its unblinking attention to detail. It has been ranked third on Entertainment Weekly’s list of the 50 Best High School Movies and 10th on its "Funniest Movies of the Past 25 Years" list. The film’s soundtrack features a mix of 1970s rock songs, which contributed significantly to its budget. It is rated R for language, drug use, and sexual content.
The film is available for streaming on platforms such as Netflix and Tubi. It runs for approximately 1 hour and 43 minutes.

What’s so good about Dazed and Confused (1993)..don’t understand the love.
It’s just a fun, lovingly-made time capsule of the 1970’s and teenage freedom during the summer with a great cast and soundtrack.
More on reddit.comIs the Dazed and Confused soundtrack one of the greatest ever...?
Dazed and Confused just left me…well, dazed and confused, and not in a good way
Dazed and Confused is depressing.

I was a fan of Richard Linklater’s Before trilogies. Boyhood was alright. Someone recommended to watch Dazed and Confused so I gave it a try. I liked the fact there were a lot of would-be A-listers such as Matthew McConaughey, Mila Jovovich, Ben a fleck etc . However, the plot was non-existent and the characters were super unlivable and annoying. It’s just bunch of teenagers bullying, smoking weed, partying and being rebellious for an hour and a half.
I get it that’s the point of a lot of teen movies. But why is this movie held in such high regard? It’s basically a 70s version of Superbad but at least Superbad was more entertaining and exciting to watch. I’d rather watch Clueless than D & C and that’s saying something.
Could it be because of its portrayal of the 70s teen and kinda triggered the 90s moviegoers nostalgic feelings? Anyways, watching it in 2021, it did not work for me.
