Debit Cards for Teens
I have Fidelity Youth Accounts for my kids. They have debit cards, no fees. They gave them $50 to open them. I've also made them authorized users on my credit card (and hence they have credit cards with their names on them). They understand the responsibility of a credit card. More on reddit.com

Best bank for new teen account with debit card?

Don’t all normal transaction banking accounts come with a debit card? I think it’s standard for bank/eftpos cards to be visa/Mastercard debit cards

Westpac has a good interest rate for young people. Otherwise Up is an awesome app and has some great tools for enabling good savings habits.

Why do so many American teens not have debit cards or use Cash App?
Opening a cash app account as a minor (under 18) requires your parents to sponsor your account. If your parent doesn’t use cashapp and doesn’t want to then you’re out of luck. Also opening a bank account as a minor requires your parents to be with you because you can’t enter into contracts as a minor I was lucky enough to have Cashapp because my dad uses it. But I also had a credit card because I was added as an authorized user under my dad’s account More on reddit.com

Best debit card for teenager (US)
Many banks offer free checking accounts for teens with no minimum balance. Open one at the same place where you do your own banking. Add yourself as an authorized signer, so you can see the account when you login and can easily transfer money back and forth. The spending limit is then simply how much money is in the account. Sometimes it'll hit $0. That's okay. More on reddit.com

r/personalfinance on Reddit: Debit Cards for Teens
February 6, 2024 -

Hey gang, not sure if this is the best sub for this topic but I'm looking for an alternative option to my current set up with Chase. I have a Chase Premiere Checking account, and two kids checking accounts for my teens. My kids can access their individual accounts via Chase app on their phones, I can easily transfer money to/from those accounts, and they each have a debit card for their purchases.

Since I keep a balance below $15K in that main checking account, I gotta pay a $25/mo fee, which seems obscene to me. I don't want $15k of my liquid sitting in that account collecting minimal interest, so I'm looking to move elsewhere.

I know Venmo has teen accounts, Greenlight Financial I keep hearing about as well. I'll be looking into those. Having a physical debit card is not a deal breaker, but I do feel better knowing they having something on them in case their phone dies or gets lost.

Would love to hear what you guys use for your teens! I'm particularly looking for something that doesn't cost much to use while keeping a fairly low balance, and something app friendly and allows for easy transfers.
