What does inflation mean in the context of cosmos 8.7%? Osmosis has like a 65% inflation number.

Each Cosmos SDK will handle this differently but Cosmos has an infinate amount of coins that are going to be produced. The rate at which these are produced increased when there aren't enough people staking and decreases in scarcity when there is enough people bonded for security. 10% is the lowest inflation rate if I understand it correctly and 20% is the highest.

Osmosis has a finaite amount of coins. just shy of 1 billion. The rewards are not distributed on a per-block basis but instead gathered and distributed every 24 hours during epoch for variuos behaviors that is helpful for the network. Every 365 days Osmo rewards will be cut by 1/3

To be honest, I don't know where the 8.7% or the 65% numbers come into play

“We are the cosmos made conscious and life is the means by which the universe understands itself.” - Brian Cox
This sentiment has been floating around for a while, popularized mostly from a Carl Sagan quote: “The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe Cosmos to know itself.” The gist of this line of thinking is that life, created by the universe, is the only piece of the universe capable of reflecting and trying to understand itself. This thought doesn't really have any application to modern-day cosmology in an academic sense, but philosophically it's a cool and heartwarming sentiment. edit: I am a filthy casual who misquoted our lord and saviour More on reddit.com

what's the difference between universe and cosmos ?
We don't know if there are other universes beyond our own, or other dimensions of reality. Cosmos is therefore meant to refer to "everything in existence, including whatever may exist outside of our own local presentation of the universe." More on reddit.com

In seeking a satisfactory formulation of materialism, it helps to employ the notion of a possible world. Possible worlds are plausibly construed not literally as universes other than the single real universe (i.e., not as cosmoi), but rather as total ways the cosmos might be—i.e., maximal properties instantiable by the single real world (the single cosmos).
