Yeah, true.. something is broken. This version cant even be installed on an new installed Windows 11 Enterprise. In the manual it says be sure to use .NET 4.8 but in the download page it says .NET 8.x or newer, I've been downloaded the .Net 9 still doesnt work.. I am using the Silent switches/command when installing because its enterprise enviroment.. with both /passthrough /i /s /v"/qn" and/or with /s. but we still got errors in our logfiles. Get DEP_HARD_ERROR in log wich means dependency of some sort.. weird.. (Its not the first time Dell has broken DCU) We have to go back to version 5.4. More on reddit.com

Looking to see what is the best way you have implemented Dell Command Update?
Do you use Proactive Remediations?
We want the Dell Command Update version to update itself. So I looked into just building it as the Win32 without the Proactive Remediations.
What are your thoughts?

Deploy as a Win32 app. Have the detect criteria key off the executable instead of the MSI product code. Set another Win32 app to configure DCU to automatically install updates. Set detection criteria to the expected registry values. You should still periodically update the Win32 app that is deployed because eventually it will fall out of support and no linger self-update.

We deploy dell command with winget then use a powershell script with a URL to a CDN containing the configuration file and have Intune check this file every three hours. If the CDN file is modified the new version will be downloaded to each device applying the new settings. Then we use winget auto update to keep the software up to date. It's rather over complicated, but it was the best solotion that would be zero touch after deployment.

Hello guys,
We use primarily Patch my PC for software updates.
Recently Dell Command | Update 5.5 came out and we have trouble with new installations.
So on any new device we set up with autopilot Dell Command | update fails to install but if you have version 5.4.1 and upgrade it to 5.5 there is no problem.
The error code in intune is "0x80070004". I know that you have to change the return codes to "2 Success" if you try to install it during autopilot.
It's something about a Dell service. I'm just curious if anyone else having that problem as well?

This resolved my issue with 5.4 for me. -install .NET Desktop Running 8.0.14 as dependency. Make sure to install the .NET Desktop Runtime, not .NET Runtime.

We recently did a slow release by installing Dell Command Update in new images (so not directly from Intune) and configuring it to update itself via the Intune ADMX. So right now, only about 5% of devices have Dell Command Update. We have it configured to update once per month.
How has it worked for you? Do you have any horror stories? Do you have any config recommendations?

DCU is one of the few pieces of Dell bloat that I configure on my images. We use Monitor to configure bios passwords and SupportAssist for Business PCs to monitor status in Dell Tech Direct. DCU has always been solid for me to use command prompt remotely in the backend to install firmware.
